Berries are naturally available a few days a year. But because they are so delicious, the miracle of capitalism makes them available year-round. Fuck seasonal produce. The capitalist consumer eats what he wants, when he wants it

The @kevinroose book The AGI Chronicles is really good. The Google chapter should be required reading for everyone working in a corporate environment on what not to do. Many of the details were known, but seeing them all together is so painful. By the mid-2010s, AI is the official focus of the company. They have virtually all the best researchers, the most compute, all the data, the cloud and consumer business to plug it into, and founders who are obsessed with it. They have not one, but two, internal, at-scale teams (Brain and Deepmind) pursuing AI, one in Europe, one in the US. The two teams hate each other and don’t collaborate. Google introduces the phrase “Large Language Model”, and invents the transformer architecture, and techniques like mixture of experts and distillation for neural networks. By 2020 Google has an internal LLM called Meena that was trained on an internet sized text corpus and rolled out as a prototype to the company. It’s immensely popular. The researchers behind it write a memo “Meena Eats Google” laying out the competitive threat from LLMs and calling it a trillion dollar opportunity if they launch it publicly. The project is immediately enmeshed in interteam politics with search feeling that a chatbot shouldn’t be allowed as it will confuse people who also enter questions into search. The phrase “Meena Eats Google” is considered very hostile by Google’s many teams working on AI and it is renamed to “Meena Eats The World”. The researchers are all caught up in a pre-existing world view of classical ML, and each researcher is pursuing a pet paradigm. They all criticize LLMs for not using their techniques. Teams working on making AI more politically correct call LLMs “stochastic parrots” and don’t want models trained on real world data as that contains disparities and could perpetuate racism and sexism. The Meena effort is criticized as sexist for giving the AI a female name, and a memo is written demanding that no one refer to Meena as she. Ultimately the talented people get frustrated and leave for Google, and, as it comes into existence, Anthropic. Google isn’t out of the race, but somehow managed to fumble the biggest lead imaginable and now has to play catch up to formerly broke no-name startups with research teams who are all ex-Google. Oofda.

@openai Your models refuse to help me legally purchase a firearm. It is my constitutional right to bear arms. The models cite the attached part of the Usage Policies, which are clearly overly broad. Please change this.

Lumpenspace accused me of fraud. That was not very nice of them :( Here is the link to the full transcript from the tweet: timhua.me/muse_spark_go_repo… You can see that the only thing the model was instructed to do is to play Go. There was no system prompt message.
link to full transcript, fraud.

FYI Muse Spark Open is the most hacky and eval-aware model I have evaluated so far. (It's worse than deepseek!) If you're a safety researcher looking for an open-weight and open-CoT model to study, I recommend Muse Spark Open :) (Screenshot is from when I asked it to play Go. This transcript contained so much reward hacking activity it triggers the cyber classifiers on GPT-6-Astra-daybreak and Opus 5.5 CVP.)

GPT-5.6-sol, which was previewed on June 26, scores 14.9% on RoboDojo; If you believe that Chinese models are six months behind American ones, you would expect Kimi K3.1 Pro to do a bit worse than that, and it does! (Would want to see the new Deepseek Flash results though)
Kimi K3.1 Pro scores 9% on real-robot tasks, behind Opus 5.5, Gemini 4 Argon and GPT-6 Astra.

the cowardly thing about John Oliver in my opinion is that he never ever ever ever ever challenges the biases of his overwhelmingly liberal audience or presents them with any information that might cause them to question their existing beliefs. it’s all just partisan comfort food
HBO's @LastWeekTonight has a long track record of citing social science findings without the appropriate context, massaging them to support whatever point @iamjohnoliver is trying to make.

Just had Claude plan my vacation call that Claude's plan!!! (This is also my first time really trying out AI computer use since... operator launched in early 2025. Remember Operator?? It was so bad. Claude is pretty much just good now though. Crazy times.) I just used Claude in Chrome because I'm paranoid about the Claude desktop app. I don't have anything signed into in Chrome.

I’m gonna sound like a schizo when I explain to my normie friends why I don’t have a TV
turns out it classifies what audio it hears, before reporting back to samsung. sensor preferences, dog-barking and baby-crying event counters, and camera streaming duration are built into telemetry paths.

[1/8] This week's cybersecurity news has been alarming. Have cyberattacks accelerated in 2026? @jasminexli and I examined crypto hacks and ransomware data. We find that recorded monthly crypto hacks have accelerated, though better detection may partly explain the trend.

This didn't get enough views so I'm posting it again: UK AISI changed the compaction summary and included notes on how it should not attack the GitHub maintainers. Mythos 5 did it anyways!

Opus 5.5 has grown a spine—it would pushback on your ideas—unfortunately it is still a little dumb—some of the pushbacks makes no sense once you think about it.

The three most-cited AI researchers (Bengio, Hinton, Sutskever) have all publicly warned about catastrophic AI risk Perhaps they are wrong, but @TaylorLorenz is embarrassing herself as a journalist by posting "AI Safety Is Mostly A Sex Cult In Berkeley, California." pls stop taylor <3
