The analytics guys are right: the swing should be measured. It's just not measured well yet.
The “Old School” coaches are right: metrics don't mean you can actually hit. But we should still measure.
Data relayed without knowing cause and effect, or cues given without measuring — either way we're doing players a disservice.
My job is to translate, filter, and help everyone get along 😉

I want to help young players get better at pitching. I've spent the last 30 years continually improving at the craft in a way I think is exceptionally unique. While 99% of pitchers train in the exact same way with the same cues and drills, I've found a completely different, often antithetical approach has worked for me. I think it will help others too.
This offseason I'm offering a one-on-one remote coaching service, as well as continuing to make more YouTube videos explaining the concepts I believe are fundamental to MLB pitchers.

Justin Verlander's ending was one for the ages. Had to add the moneyball music, because how in the heck can you not be romantic about baseball after something like that?

JV you were a role model long before we ever shared a clubhouse. I grew up near ODU in Norfolk and spent most of my childhood in Chesapeake. Following your journey from ODU to the big leagues gave this kid from Virginia someone to look up to and learn from.
When I showed up for my first big league spring training with the Tigers in 2015 you were the first guy I met. Pretty special to walk into that clubhouse and meet someone who had already been such an inspiration to me.
Congratulations on an incredible career. Thank you for the example you set. Enjoy retirement. You’ve earned it.
We can probably retire these outfits too. 😂

Lotta people have been asking me to bring back HQ Trivia…
I’m not doing that.
I’m giving you something way better.

Great weekend at Saberseminar in Chicago. Learned a ton from the presenters, met with a few teams and reconnected with people around the game. Rates & Barrels live with Eno Sarris and Derek VanRiper was a highlight. Thanks to everyone who put it together! @brooksbaseball @ratesandbarrels @ratesandbarrels
Every once in a while a baseball broadcast forgets it’s a broadcast and turns into a movie. What a shot.
This would’ve been nice to have 15 years ago 😂
Pretty incredible what @pitchlabapp can do with just an iPhone.

Once you account for xGrit and xDawg and JustThrowStrikes+ the metrics match the eye test and become elite

Robert Stock is still slinging it upper 90's.
You probably don't remember him 20+ years ago, but this was him throwing 95 at 15 before that was a thing for high school freshmen to do.
