1/ 🧵Thrilled to share that our new paper was just published at @ScienceTM @aaas ! 🎉
We show how the complement system boosts the ability of antibodies to neutralize SARS-CoV-2, especially recent variants. 🦠🧫

🚀 Excited to share BindClaw! 🦀
Starting from a prompt or research paper, BindClaw connects biological mechanisms to protein design: identify targets and binding sites → build mechanism-specific computational assays → generate and assess binders → refine designs using the results.
We use agents to evaluate whether designs fit the intended biological objective, including competition with a native partner and preference for a particular molecular state. 🧬
In a human-guided calmodulin campaign, 15 of 18 designs showed binding to calcium-loaded CaM, including subnanomolar binders supported by both BLI and SPR.
This work is an incredible team effort together with @DidiKieran , @saint__ai, @ Kyle Gion and @sacdallago and many others!

« For clinical trials, I'd even call human-only review dangerous »
I felt like that AI reviews are reliable and objective as compared to human ones.
Amazing to seer this quantified.
Given the burden of reviewing it raises many interesting question…
Lots of debate this week on whether journals should ban AI in peer review.
We actually tested this in our new preprint, and the results were pretty clear to me.
For context, I've reviewed for most of the big journals and evaluated 1,000 human reviews as an editor. I love to read and evaluate science.
TLDR: From now on I won't do any peer review without AI. For clinical trials, I'd even call human-only review dangerous 🧵

Our BA.3.2.2 study is now published in Nature Microbiology!
Counterintuitively, we found that ancestral-strain immune imprinting protects against BA.3.2.2 through IGHV3-53/66 Class 1 antibodies, helping explain why BA.3.2.2 selectively infects children.

What an amazing opportunity !
Today, we’re announcing an open call for guest investigators in life sciences. Over 8–12 weeks, guest investigators will work directly with my team and other Anthropic researchers to produce analyses and tools for their work. We’ll run our models and harnesses, at no cost to them. We’ll work together to open-source the resulting data, artifacts, and code, and write preprints about what we find.
We want humans to remain at the center of scientific discovery, deciding what questions to pursue, and how to pursue them. Those decisions are not ours to make alone. This open call is part of our ongoing efforts at Anthropic to support researchers and accelerate scientific discovery.
I’m looking for principal investigators and their research groups at academic institutions, nonprofits, or government labs, working in causal human biology, structural and computational molecular biology, medicinal chemistry, drug discovery, and clinical science.
Applications are open for about 14 days: anthropic.com/news/open-call…

Large upload from Ontario yesterday, providing striking revelations about the evolution of PJ.2.1.
First, there is yet another hugely divergent branch of PJ.2.
This isn't one variant: it's four.
More & more, this resembles the emergence of BA.1/2/3. What is happening? 1/11

A suivre !

This one is wild.

Sonnet 5.5: 82.3%
Opus 5.5: 82.6%
Claude gets a protein target structure and up to 24 hours to design 30 miniprotein binders.
Sonnet is basically at Opus level here.
