A wise man should devote one-tenth of his lawfully earned wealth to a righteous deed for the pleasure of God.

The need for attention is inversely proportional to a man's understanding of life. The less he understands life, the more he craves attention. People who are obsessed with fame and public validation often mistake recognition for self-worth. Feeling empty within, they rely on the masses to make them feel important. When enough people tell you that you are somebody, you may begin to believe it, even when that image has little to do with who you truly are. The masses can create an illusion that separates you from your true self. They may make an ordinary man feel extraordinary, or convince a man with extraordinary potential that he has already achieved enough. If you are X, they make you feel like XX. And if you have the potential to become YYYY, they may keep you comfortable, satisfied, and distracted with praise for merely reaching YYY. The greatest danger of public validation is that it can make you feel accomplished long before you have fulfilled your potential.

Only those who help others according to their ability should be considered blessed. Such people alone are the protectors of the entire world and are supremely virtuous. Those who work solely to fill their own stomachs are destined to suffer.

You should carefully reflect and make every effort to secure your own interests whenever you are relying on the judgment of another. Your parents and wife, whenever they make any choices or decisions for you, first think about the benefits they will get from those choices and decisions. Never think that someone will make a judgment on your behalf without considering the benefits they could gain from you. Especially when it comes to marriage, parents think about the benefits they will receive in terms of status and respect, while a wife thinks about her security, material prosperity, and the enjoyment she gets. Many women live with men they find completely intolerable because they believe they are still getting some benefits or use out of those husbands. Similarly, men also live with wives they hate because, in some way, those wives still make their lives more convenient.
