Ever wished you had a bigger fMRI dataset beyond the (amazing) NSD? Introducing MOSAIC! Incredible effort led expertly by @Blahner with help from @mayukh091 in collaboration with the amazing @AudeOliva.

Mice dorsal cortex hosts overlapping visual and tactile sensory maps, forming an abstract representation of peripersonal space that enables spontaneous generalization of spatial task rules. Co-led this study with @GtnMaelle in @elboustanilab! More details down here... 🧠👇
If you can see it, you can feel it! Thrilled to share our new @NatureComms paper on how mice generalize spatial rules between vision & touch, led by brilliant co-first authors @giulio_matt & @GtnMaelle. More details in this thread 🧵 (1/7) doi.org/10.1038/s41467-025-5…

Fascinating to see new evidence for aligned visual and tactile maps in the human cortex! We recently found that overlapping visual and tactile maps across the dorsal cortex of mice support cross-modal generalization behavior: doi.org/10.1038/s41467-025-5… Nice to see the cross-species consistency! 🐭↔️🧑
New today in @Nature: your visual cortex contains touch-based body maps. bit.ly/VisualBodyMaps Your brain transforms what you see into first-person, body-referenced codes: A previously unknown bridge between vision and touch.

1/n. Thrilled to announce our new paper (nature.com/articles/s41586-0…) is out today in @Nature! The core finding is that our visual cortex is unexpectedly tiled with touch-based body maps.

This provides a mechanistic basis for everyday vicarious experiences — like flinching when you see someone fall — but the implications go far deeper: • Social cognition • Sensory and clinical neuroscience (e.g., ASD) • Embodied AI & AGI development

In this TINS review we (w/@cvnlab, @elimerriam, & @eline_kupers) argue that *intensive* (many hours of data) fMRI of single individuals for single-voxel model fitting is a paradigm shift for cognitive/computational neuroimaging. tinyurl.com/intensivefmri 1/2

Especially when we can combine different intensive fMRI datasets, this gives us unrivalled power to explore and characterise computational motifs in the human brain. A recent preprint of ours showcasing this approach here: tinyurl.com/seesoma 2/2

So proud of this preprint! @HedgerResearch has analysed over 700 hours of 7T fMRI data from HCP (retinotopy, movie, rest) and NSD to discover a sequence of novel, vicariously activated somatotopic maps tiling visual cortex.
🧵New preprint with @cvnlab, @tnaselar & @tknapen: How does the brain connect vision and touch representations to infuse vision with body-related meaning? TLDR: We found high-level visual cortex is tiled with maps 'multiplexing' vision and touch. tinyurl.com/seesoma 1/n

Stale, traditional concepts are holding us back in cognitive neuroscience. @NauMatt and colleagues beautifully argue how we can break free from our conceptual straight jackets. Must read!
#CogNeuro seeks unified theories of behavioral, physiological, and mental states. To this aim, our @NatureNeuro Perspective proposes a new framework centered on #TaskDemands & across-task generalization. nature.com/articles/s41593-0… w/@Alex_C_Schmid @smkaps @Chris_I_Baker D.Kravitz🧵

Summary 🧵 of our latest @NatureComms w @cvnlab & @elimerriam: nature.com/articles/s41467-0… V1 neurons are organized in cortical columns according to their preferred orientation. It would seem that standard fMRI resolution is too coarse to study these orientation-selective signals...

The cherry on the cake that was my PhD, which showed that there is no evidence for functional subdivisions in the subthalamic nucleus during perceptual decisions, has now been published in Cortex! *also my first senior authorship, yay! 🥳 sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
New preprint: "No evidence for three functionally specialized subregions in the subthalamic nucleus: A model-based 7 T fMRI study". This beautiful null-result study is the culmination of my PhD, masterfully dragged across the finish line by Steven Miletic. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
