Big news for Louisiana’s littlest 💛 We’re proud to announce a transformational investment to build a new 60-bed, Level 4 NICU—expanding the highest level of care available for the most critically ill newborns from across our region. The new flagship unit at Manning Family Children’s will anchor Children's regional network of care and address a critical need for expanded capacity and advanced neonatal care as the only program in Louisiana and the Gulf South with every pediatric medical and surgical specialty under one roof. In 2025 alone, our team cared for 272 critically ill babies transferred from 39 hospitals across the region, including micropremies born as early as 22 weeks. As Louisiana faces one of the highest preterm birth rates in the nation, the need for highly specialized neonatal care continues to grow. Our state-of-the-art NICU will serve as a national model for neonatal care, often beginning before birth, due to the strength of the @LCMCHealth network of obstetricians and maternal-fetal medicine specialists. As the only NICU in Louisiana housing all pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties under one roof, this new unit will: - Increase capacity from 35 to 60 beds - Triple the current NICU’s footprint - Provide sensory-optimized, family-centered care spaces - Add on-unit procedural rooms for rapid intervention - Expand academic space to train the next generation of pediatric and neonatal providers Construction begins this spring, with doors opening in 2027. Designed by Kennedy Kraft Architects and built by Woodward Designs, this expansion ensures we never have to turn away the region’s most vulnerable patients.
