As Hurricane Francine makes landfall in Southeast Louisiana, 10 Community Lighthouses -- 9 in New Orleans, 1 in LaPlace -- are prepared to open if there's a sustained power outage.
Community Lighthouses are community facilities outfitted with solar and battery-storage microgrids, which island from the grid when there is an outage and can operate indefinitely as a response hub until power is restored.
If the grid fails on Wednesday, the following sites plan to open on Thursday.
This map will be kept updated at togethernola.org.

Together New Orleans secures $806,000 in federal funding to support the construction of seven Community Lighthouses. The funding was announced yesterday by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Electricity (OE) as part of the Energy Storage for Social Equity (ES4SE) Program.
TLA's Community Lighthouse strategy got a real-life test today. 3 mins before the start of the River Parish Disaster Prep annual mtg @NewWineLaplace, Entergy's grid went down.
There were 45 faith & community leaders, St John's Parish Pres, FEMA. It was getting hot. Fast. 🧵
A techie note for the energy nerds. At 10:12am, 15 mins into the outage, the state of charge on the back-up battery was 81.5%. But by 11:27am, after powering whole facility for 90 minutes, the battery's state of charge was at 91.5% -- 10% higher. How's that possible? /4

One commissioner spent roughly two hours giving lengthy monologues that delayed the vote, but this drew the ire of spectators who interrupted his speech, chanting, “Vote! Vote! Vote! Vote!” lailluminator.com/2024/01/25… via @IlluminatorLA
The @la_psc vote positions Louisiana as a leader in energy efficiency as the only state in the South w an independent program that'll save energy & lower bills! Shout out to @craigcgreenemd, @davantelewis & Commissioner Campbell for standing with the people! #WINNING

In 2012, Louisiana regulators set up a small energy efficiency program with the idea that they would establish a robust plan soon thereafter.
After kicking the can down the road for more than a decade, the commission finally set up that program: nola.com/news/louisiana-esta…

.@ENERGY is committed to tackling the climate crisis through equity-centered solutions.
The Community Lighthouse Resilience Hub in LaPlace, LA, is an example of that, providing communities with resources for recovery during extreme weather conditions and power outages.
We were proud to join with @ENERGY Secretary Granholm today to celebrate the opening of our newest #CommunityLighthouse at New Wine Christian Fellowship in St. John Parish, the nation's most climate-vulnerable county.
Sec. Granholm said, "We are thrilled to celebrate the completion of the seventh #CommunityLighthouse in Louisiana. This project is a testament to the power of grassroots organizations and their commitment to creating resilient and sustainable communities."
