It's a great pleasure for me to connect with people all over the world through Twitter. I will introduce Japanese traditional culture and modern Japan.

The Akita Kanto Festival. The bamboo poles, adorned with dozens of lanterns, symbolize a bountiful rice harvest. It is wonderful to see children as young as six or seven proudly demonstrating these traditional skills. #秋田竿灯祭り

The Akita Kanto Festival began as a summer ritual to drive away evil spirits and pray for good harvests. Over time, it evolved into a major cultural event celebrating Akita’s agricultural prosperity and artistry.

On the second day of my trip, I enjoyed the Kanto Festival in Akita. This is a traditional summer event where performers balance towering bamboo poles decorated with dozens of lanterns, symbolizing rice plants and prayers for a good harvest.

These poles can reach up to 12 meters and weigh over 50 kilograms, creating a breathtaking display of strength, skill, and rhythm as they sway through the night streets of Akita City.

After the Nebuta festival, we spent the night at a hot spring in the mountains of Iwate. The first photo shows a view with Mount Iwate visible in the distance. The second and third are of Lake Tazawa in Akita next to Iwate. The last was taken during a winter visit to the lake.

After viewing the Aomori Nebuta Festival, we traveled to Akita Prefecture. On the way, we stopped at Lake Tazawa. I had visited the area once before, in January three years ago; Lake Tazawa in winter held a charm distinct from that of summer.

The Aomori Nebuta Festival is one of Japan’s most famous summer events. Giant illuminated floats depicting warriors and mythical scenes parade through the streets. Energetic dancers called haneto jump and shout “Rassera!” to lively music.

The massive floats are handcrafted by local artisans, taking months of dedicated work. Experiencing Nebuta up close—its lights, sounds, and energy—is something travelers never forget.

I embarked on a four-day trip starting August 4th to visit the four major summer festivals of the Tohoku region. On the first day, I went to see the Aomori Nebuta Festival (Aomori Prefecture). Giant illuminated floats parade through the city accompanied by energetic dancers.

Quintessential Japanese Landscapes (1)Okinawa Prefecture. It seems the rainy season hasn't ended in Tokyo yet, but today's weather feels like full-blown summer. So, I’ve selected a photo that epitomizes the summery scenery of Okinawa Prefecture.

On our first night in Asahikawa, enjoyed delicious sushi at a small shop located a little over a twenty-minute walk from the station. The chef is a cheerful 83-year-old man. The map on display shows that people from all over the world—from Alaska to Africa—have visited the shop.

For this trip to Hokkaido, I flew to Sapporo on the first day, then took the JR train to Asahikawa, where I stayed overnight. I did this to fulfill my wife's wish to fly in first class at least once. The photos show the in-flight meal and the seats.

Our return flight from Sapporo to Tokyo was also in First Class. The photo shows the in-flight meal served on that flight.

I selected a few photos taken in Asahikawa. Like other cities in Hokkaido, this beautiful city is struggling with a declining population. I hope it remains a beautiful and vibrant city forever.

On the first day of our trip to Hokkaido, we stayed overnight in Asahikawa. Located near the center of Hokkaido, the city is a "core city" with a population of about 310,000—the second largest in the region after Sapporo. The photos show Asahikawa Sta. and the park close to it.

Ever since I missed a step on the stairs at home on April 10th and fractured the instep of my right foot, I haven't been able to travel or post much. However, my foot has finally healed, and I enjoyed a trip to Hokkaido starting on June 26th. youtu.be/6SZD43VrKRc?si=6x7V…
