All of our thoughts are with the community in Tumbler Ridge, and those who have lost loved ones in these appalling and incomprehensible acts of violence.
I am devastated by today’s horrific shootings in Tumbler Ridge, B.C. My prayers and deepest condolences are with the families and friends who have lost loved ones to these horrific acts of violence.   I join Canadians in grieving with those whose lives have been changed irreversibly today, and in gratitude for the courage and selflessness of the first responders who risked their lives to protect their fellow citizens. Our ability to come together in crisis is the best of our country — our empathy, our unity, and our compassion for each other.   I have connected with Premier Eby to express my condolences, and with the Minister of Public Safety, Gary Anandasangaree, who is coordinating the federal response.    Our officials are in close contact with their counterparts to ensure the community is fully supported as best we can. The Government of Canada stands with all British Columbians as they confront this horrible tragedy.

This is the great dilemma of the moment, faced by Western democracies around the world. It's not entirely either-or, but if BC leans too heavily towards protectionism, it will never achieve its ambitious growth goals. Read my take on it here: linkedin.com/posts/thomas-co… 2/2

As countries gather for @Cop30noBrasil, I’m proud the UK is driving the global action that matters - from forest finance to food security and ocean protection. The UK is working with global partners to cut emissions, accelerate clean energy, and keep 1.5°C within reach. #COP30

With Canada uncharacteristically interested in rugby after the Women's World Cup, Crossley Heath School in Yorkshire picked a good moment for their rugby tour to Vancouver. Thanks David Briggs, ex-Crossley himself, for inviting me to meet them.

I will work relentlessly with our fantastic metro mayors, our friends in devolved governments and our investment partners in the UK and overseas to end this era of low growth. Thank you, Birmingham, for having me today at the Regional Investment Summit.

Today, after two years of conflict and suffering, we mark the first phase in ending the war in the Middle East. The UK is providing humanitarian aid right now for those in need and will work with international partners to help rebuild Gaza and secure a lasting peace.

I’m appalled by the attack at a synagogue in Crumpsall. The fact that this has taken place on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, makes it all the more horrific. My thoughts are with the loved ones of all those affected, and my thanks go to the emergency services and all the first responders.
