The Giant For several days, a huge bird had been attacking airplanes and pecking at the parachutists before they could reach the ground. The rulers of the land found the strongest warrior and sent him to kill the bird. The warrior jumped from a plane, opened his parachute, and drew his sword. The bird flew closer and tried to peck him, but he bravely struck at it. The bird dodged and tore his parachute apart. He began falling toward the ground at terrifying speed. Suddenly, the bird caught him and carried him above the clouds, into a completely different world. The warrior woke up in a giant nest among the branches of a huge tree. The landscape around him was unlike anything he had ever seen on Earth. “Why did you bring me here?” he asked. “I was looking for the bravest human to fight our enemy.” “You killed so many people, and now you want me to fight for you?” “You don't have to. But then you will never get home.” The warrior thought for a moment. “What must I do?” “A giant is destroying us. He comes to destroy our nests, and only a human can defeat him. You are brave. You can win.” The warrior agreed. Suddenly, he heard heavy footsteps. Boom… Boom… Boom… His knees began to shake. Every part of him wanted to run. Then the giant's head appeared through the clouds. “Little human! Do you really think you can defeat me?” he thundered. The warrior closed his eyes and gathered all his courage. The giant raised his foot to crush him. But the warrior imagined that instead of a giant, he was facing an ordinary man. He raised his sword and struck. Blood flowed from the giant's neck, and he fell to the ground with a terrible crash. The birds celebrated, but the warrior was still shaking with fear. “Do you remember the story of David and Goliath?” the bird asked. “David did almost the same thing. He didn't see a giant in Goliath. He saw an ordinary man.”
