the bitter fact is that the older you get, the less delusional aka mature u become, the more u suffer & the more u fail at life. Staying childlike, irrationally optimistic & almost absurdly delusional is the highest form of wisdom. That's how u live a truly fulfilling life.
Dear young Nigerian,
This new week, is an opportunity at a fresh start. Use it well. Choose to be a person of excellence. Work on yourself. Invest in your mind. Be intentional in every area of your life, starting with a decision to be a better version of your previous self daily.

Love is ethical, before it is emotional. I think about this statement a lot. It is your responsibility that you make sure you do not exploit those who love you. Love is a powerful force, and if in good conscience you value those who love you, you will protect them from themselves

when you get to 35 and you're single with no kids, you're going to regret it cos you should've already started a family by now. if you get to 35 yo and you've been married for 10 yrs with 3 or 4 kids, you're going to regret that cos you never got the chance to really live out your 20s. so if you marry, you will regret it. if you don't marry, you will also regret it. if you have kids, you will regret it. if you don't have kids, you will regret it. the big problem here is that choosing one life leaves another one unlived and where the regret festers is in our minds, when we romanticize the unknown of the path we didn't choose. we keep hunting for a choice that lets us keep every upside and pay no price but newsflash: it doesn't exist. so ask yourself, do i want this life badly enough to carry its cost? or did i only love it while it cost me nothing? think about that.

Five beliefs that changed my life
1. “I do not owe my past the rest of my life.”
You cannot recover the years you spent on the wrong path by giving it more years. Make your next decision based on the life ahead of you, not the need to justify the one behind you.
2. “Some of the things I call my personality are the boundaries of what I have practised.”
“I’m not that kind of person” can become a rule that stops you from discovering who else you could be. Before you call something your limit, ask whether you have given yourself permission to be a beginner at it.
3. “The life I want may require feelings I keep trying not to have.”
The life you want may involve the rejection, uncertainty or vulnerability you keep organising your life to avoid. You do not have to enjoy those feelings, but you may need to find a spot to cope with them.
4. “I can succeed at a goal and still discover that it was never mine.”
You can spend years pursuing something because you want what having it would say about you, without wanting the daily life that comes with it. Before you commit, ask whether you want to live that life or simply be seen as someone who does.
5. “I do not have to dislike myself to take responsibility for changing.”
You can admit that your behaviour needs to change without making yourself smaller. Accountability asks you to repair the damage, not to hate yourself.

Why "Networking" is difficult in Nigeria:
- Nigerians don't know how to network
- Nigerians are difficult to network with
Let me highlight how to network upwards in case some might find it useful.

Prominent American law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges founded in 1931, almost a century ago, has collapsed and is now winding down.
It is almost unbelievable that this prestigious law firm which had more than 1,200 lawyers, acted as pallbearers for the likes of General Motors and Enron in bankruptcy, and made more than 2 billion dollars in revenue last year is currently struggling for survival to the point of processing a winding down.
What should we learn from this as law firm owners in our clime?
1. Revenue is not profit. Being busy is not profit. Large clientele is not profit. Accolades and awards is not profit. At the end of the day, the numbers on the business side of law must not only add up, they must reflect in the lives of its people.
2. Audit your practice and know when to pivot, expand practice areas or increase geographical spread.
Weil, Gotshal & Manges is a firm focused on bankruptcy and has led many companies like Enron through its own bankruptcy. When bankruptcy began drying up and other mega firms emerged through mergers, the firm stuck to its niche while other firms tried to maximise profit by dominating every corner of the legal business. From what I read, by the time it was expanding, its growth was already behind that of its peers. The worst thing after an idea that came too early is an idea that came too late.
3. Make decisions fast- At the first sign of trouble signalling dwindling times, the firm saw it, refused to lay off workers, tried to salvage through restructuring and merger talks both of which failed. Those same workers saw the downward spiral and moved enmasse to other firms triggering retention issues and consequently the winding down. At the end of the day, not making a decision is also a decision and sometimes a very expensive one.
4. Talent war and retention dynamics- To compete or grow to the stage of competing with giant law firms who have amassed a war chest that allows them dominate the race for talent, your numbers MUST be right. You must make data driven decisions. You cannot charge a client based on feelings, emotions, phrases like ‘abeg’, ‘just help me’, ‘small case’, ‘small letter’, or ‘don’t worry a bigger brief is coming’ or even your current circumstances. The vision of where you want to be and the sacrifices that has gotten you to where you are must always drive you.
5. Nobody is immune to failure- A one year old firm can fail so also an almost 100 years old firm can fail. Grow fast, fail forward, think seriously about succession, constantly benchmark yourself with elite firms, not because you are comparing but because you are drawing your own innovative roadmap to reach the top.
Building anything is never easy.
Many builders, principals and entrepreneurs show up at work daily after having 3am mental board meetings with ourselves on how to move the business forward, make hard decisions for the vision, check the account balance multiple times and psyche ourselves for the journey ahead.
Today as always, I doff my hat to every builder out there.
Better days are here…

Cell phone addiction is an absolute thermonuke to the brain and nobody 'takes it seriously' because it is not clear that there is any solution in a world where the revealed preference of everyone across the globe, regardless of income, race, age, any factor whatsoever, would rather be on their phone than do *anything* else. Deciding "I use this too much" and meaningfully altering one's behaviour doesn't seem to have much success for any of the very small minority of people with the sentience or self-reflection to realize how bad it is. Most people seem to think of it as an unproductive habit at most, rather than an addiction. Any attempt to speak seriously about this is met with derision, accusations of pretentiousness. There is no real solution to it. The future of human cognition fifty years down the line is horrifying if you stop and think about it for even a moment.

You should strive to leave this place as often as you can. I tell you, dear friends, this place is not real. It will contort you, turn you inside out, until you become a vicious viper hanging loosely on the branch of a tree, forever seething, forever looking for someone, anyone, to hurl venom at. Do everything you can to leave this place as often as possible, and return only when you feel you have detoxified yourself, purged yourself of the filth it leaves on you. Make a habit of it, I beg you. If you don't, one day, someone will tell you what this place has turned you into, and you will swear by all the gods your father served, all the ones you serve yet deny, and all the ones your children will serve, that the person they are describing cannot possibly be you.

It takes a psychopathic and sociopathic level of dedication to make it out of this system, you cant just want it enough to try when its convenient, if you want to be immense, top 0.0001% you have to push yourself to places that are not human
The sheer intensity of self command, the willingness to become indifferent to distraction, social approval, temporary discomfort and the endless invitations to dilute your own potential, delay gratification, cut costs, focus explicitly on a tiny number of variables for a fixed period of time, to not even entertain the possibility it can be any other way, you have to want it more than anyone else with an obsession that borders on madness, you're adapting whilst they're resting, dude is chilling with his girlfriend cuddling, you are in the trenches scheming more upward mobility, whilst they're complaining your hunting for edges and scanning relentlessly for your next advantage
You have to become extraordinarily selective about what receives access to your mind, your time, your energy and your future. Most people are not defeated by one catastrophic event, they are slowly yet surely disassembled by a thousand small concessions, weak friendships, poor financial decisions, fragmented attention, cheap pleasures, emotional volatility and years spent negotiating with standards they already know they must uphold daily relentlessly
Treat life as an integrated system, protect biology, sharpen judgement, accumulating capital, building competence and refuse to allow temporary emotional states to govern permanent decisions
Even when you're winning you have to be violently honest about where you are slacking and where you are losing momentum, even 30 minutes a day over a year is 182.5 hours, or about 4.5 full time work weeks, you must push harder and you must enjoy the process of knowing you are willing to go further than the next man,I can take more pain than you I can forget my emotions quicker and more repeatedly than you can, my decisions are more objective than yours are, I will outlast you in spirit and action
There is something almost frightening about the individual who can sustain intelligent effort for years without requiring the world to continually reassure him that victory is coming
He is not merely working harder, he is becoming increasingly difficult to interrupt, corrupt, discourage or disorganise repeatedly to turn his spirit, mind and soul into one organised system of task decimation for a broader task of fuliflling the committment he made to himself many nights ago
