The Secretary of EOEA has relaxed the drought declaration for norteastern Massachusetts from a critical drought to a significant drought so we're able to relax our water restrictions.
These restrictions apply to all public water customers and the private irrigation wells they may own. The restrictions will remain in effect until the drought declaration is modified or rescinded.
The Topsfield Water Department’s 2025 Water Quality Report is now available at the Water Department Office or online at https:\\topsfieldpublicworks.org
The Water Department has implemented a Mandatory Outdoor Water Use Restriction starting today. The restriction is needed due to very low Ipswich River streamflow and concerns about the availability of water.
Essential outdoor uses that meet a core business function, are required by permit or needed for public saftey are allowed. Please visit topsfieldpublicworks.org for more information.
We are in the process of surveying all non-residential properties for cross connections. Cross connections pose a risk to public health if contaminants are siphoned into the water system during a low pressure event or pumped into the water system.
The surveys are done periodically and are required by MassDEP. The purpose of the survey is to identify all non-potable connections to the water system, determine the degree of hazard of each connection and make sure it is either eliminated or protected.
Our 2024 water quality report is available at topsfieldpublicworks.org. Customers should receive a copy by mail. Additional copies are available at the Water Department Office.
The Select Board voted at their June 2nd meeting to remove all water restrictions effective immediately. The declared drought that started last fall is finally over.
Northeastern Massachusetts is still in a critical drought. Planting and landscape season will start with water restrictions in effect so plan accordingly. Visit topsfieldpublicworks.org for more information.
