PART 2 OF 2 — CONTINUED
4. Training reports — continued
And to play devil’s advocate: if the answer is that any horse can win, what is the point of the training report? What useful decision is it helping me make, especially if the differences separating ranked horses are fractions of a second?
Telling someone their horse ranks number 58 can create a very different impression from telling them how close it actually is to the horses above it. If the gap is only one or two thousandths of a second, that context matters. A ranking alone does not explain the size or significance of the difference. The information needs to be better explained so players understand what it actually says about their horse’s chances.
A report can discourage an owner from entering a horse by suggesting it is not an early major contender or otherwise implying that it is unlikely to be competitive. Yet I have seen plenty of horses whose reports gave me that impression go on to perform well once they started racing.
That creates a real problem. Someone could pass up races their horse had a legitimate chance of winning because they trusted the information they paid to receive.
Training does not have to predict every result. But it should help players make better decisions. If the language is vague enough to discourage a competitive horse’s owner while giving another owner misplaced confidence, I question the value of the service.
I can breed today, wait months to race, and still be expected to locate a narrow window when the horse might have a chance to compete.
That is a lot to ask of a player without useful guidance.
5. Racing results and breeding value feel disconnected
I understand that the highest-rated horse should not win every race. Conditions, suitability, and randomness should matter. But I need to understand why the apparent advantage of a stronger horse so often fails to translate into the results I expect.
Breeding raises a related question. I have seen weaker horses produce exceptional offspring repeatedly, while exceptional horses fail to reproduce their own quality consistently. Individual examples do not establish the overall odds, but they do leave me questioning what I am paying a premium for.
Breeding reports emphasize major wins and black type. What should a breeder infer from those accomplishments? How much do they matter to the offspring’s prospects?
If race achievement is presented as a selling point, players need a clear explanation of its relevance to breeding decisions.
6. Surface changes have not improved the experience enough
Too much of what I am seeing feels like surface work and generic AI-style presentation while the gameplay frustrations remain.
I want meaningful improvements to the racing experience, clearer information, better graphics, and customization worth caring about. Where are the jockey silks and cosmetic purchases that could give players enjoyable, optional ways to spend?
A new page design or another vague generated paragraph does not resolve the problems that determine whether I want to breed, train, and race.
What would make me reconsider?
I would need to see breeding fees that reflect current horse values, a simpler schedule, training reports that support actual decisions, and visible progress on bringing new players into the game.
I would also need clearer explanations of what ratings, race achievements, and breeding reports can reasonably tell us. Players should be able to understand the proposition before committing more money.
The betting experience also needs to feel complete and worth using, with clear bet displays, clear transaction rules, and meaningful incentives to participate.
I have spent a long time giving feedback. This season, my spending will reflect that feedback too.
I am sitting breeding out. Photo Finish Live needs to give me a reason to believe the next breeding decision will make more sense than the last one.
