Incident Report - Security Officer Disarmed and Shots Fired Date - 26 October 2026 Location - Photocopy shop opposite the Licensing Office Responding Unit - Blue Security Tactical Units T5, T13 and T14 SAPS - Umbilo SAPS, Bellair SAPS Blue Security Tactical Command Centre received information regarding an incident involving a security officer employed at a photocopy shop situated opposite the Licensing Office. According to the information received, an ongoing dispute exists between the security officer and a group of males who regularly gather outside the Licensing Office. During the incident, the security officer reportedly approached the group, resulting in a confrontation. The situation escalated, and the security officer allegedly drew his 9mm handgun and discharged an unconfirmed amount of rounds. During the shooting, one male sustained a graze wound to the forehead. As the situation escalated, members of the group reportedly managed to disarm the security officer of his R5 rifle. It was further established that the rifle was not secured in a rifle carrier bag and was exposed. The security officer's 9mm handgun reportedly remained in his possession. A security officer stationed at the Licensing Office intervened and managed to recover the R5 rifle. He secured the rifle inside the Licensing Office and only returned it once SAPS had stood down. The quantity of ammunition carried by the security officer at the time of the incident remains unknown. The exact number of rounds discharged has not been confirmed. The matter was subsequently secured by Umbilo SAPS, there after Bellair SAPS arrived and took over the scene for further investigation and handling.
