Signed into an AWS console for the first time in over a year. What a nostalgic trip that was - at least for the first 5 minutes.
I think these years of layoffs, job automation, and the tightening of investment should be referred to as "The Techoning"
Today I realized I could deref the first element of a nested array as `const { rows: [record] } = object`. And I kind of love and hate it at the same time. Help me decide... A, B or C??
Just wrote this little nugget of future tech debt that I'm not proud of. Then again it was a 1 line fix to a minor problem...
Been a pretty hard core follower of MySQL my whole career. Lately done a bit of mongo.
Recently, just to learn, cracked open Postgres on a personal project and woah… shoulda looked into it sooner
Is #TypeScript broken on #React ForwardRef?
I'm using this:
export const JobCard = forwardRef((ref: ForwardedRef<HTMLElement>) => {
return <div ref={ref} />
}
And I'm getting errors around mismatch between HTMLDivElement and HTMLElement. 🧵1/2
IMO forwardRef should be able to use the lower-specificity type. It's saying, hey, I just need the element to match at least this API. So why is the DIV complaining that .align isn't supported, I'm specifically saying I don't care about align.
This makes ref types viral...
One of the best little utility libraries I've found in a long time. github.com/romac/react-if
Makes conditional rendering so much nicer to read and reason about. Not sure I'll ever build another app without it
Unpopular opinion: this “just use a framework” mentality in #React is bad for the ecosystem. It promotes prototyping and throw-away software and is keeping the ecosystem from stabilizing for enterprise use.
When you join a company are you adding +1 to the workforce? or are you multiplying the workforce? If you can increase the capacity/skill/confidence of those around you, even in a small way, then your bringing way more value than just your own capacity.
Wrote a tool to mount any React component into a blank page, with whatever context you want, on the fly.
Great for testing in isolation.
Only dependency is webpack-dev-server - i.e. Storybook without the cruft or learning curve.
Should I publish?
If you use @SlackHQ and you're NOT running windows Vista, then go to Settings > Accessibility > Window Transparency, and turn it off. You're welcome.
I can attest to the extraordinary amount of work this has taken to deliver. So cool to see it in the wild. 100% a game changer for ecomm and fulfillment.
Nice to see our first merchant going live with Enhanced Checkout for #Shopify 🎉 #ecommerce

It's time to do the thing I've been scared of and start up my Solutions Architecture firm.
Any of my friends on here have experience freelancing? What are some resources you used to find and connect to clients?
