Von Miller reveals after Texas A&M coach Mike Sherman suspended him, he packed everything he owned into his truck and started driving to Florida to transfer, when he called his he dad told him not to quit, so he turned around and led the nation with 17.5 sacks the next season
“I had everything I owned in this blanket, and I went to my car. I threw it in the back and I’m driving home. I called my daddy. I’m like, ‘Daddy, man, I’m leaving. Coach Sherman kicked me off the team. I ain’t coming back until I do this and that.’”
“I’m thinking my dad is going, ‘All right, we’re going to find something else.’ He said, ‘Pull that truck over, turn around, and go back to school. You’re not quitting.’”
“I was like, ‘That was not the answer I was looking for.’ He was like, ‘You’re not just about to quit when it gets hard. You’re going to turn that truck back around. You’re going to go back to school and you’re going to fix it.’”
“I had tears going down my face. I was like, ‘Man, this is going to be so hard to fix all of this.’ I turned around. We had a meeting. Coach Sherman told my dad the exact same thing that he told me, and my dad agreed with Coach Sherman.”
“There was nowhere I could go. I just had to face the music. I had to face the truth. That spring was a hard one, but I got my grades up. I made it to all my classes. I went through the checklist of everything Coach Sherman wanted me to do.”
“That following year, my junior year, was the best year that I had up until that day. I led the nation in sacks. I had 17 and a half sacks. My life had totally changed. That was all a testament to running straight through the storm. The shortest way through the storm is straight. I put my head down and I worked, and my life totally changed that offseason.”

AAU season is ending and a lot of families are looking for a “better situation.”
Sometimes, a change IS the right move.
But before you leave, ask yourself…
Are we leaving because this situation is hurting development… or because it’s challenging development?
There’s a BIG difference.

An inflated ego is the biggest issue for kids with talent.
Players think they’re too good and stop putting in hard work.

“In studying trends of the winningest programs over the past 15 years, what wins more than anything is:
-Rebound Margin
-Shooting Percentages
-Defensive Field Goal Percentage
“The best at these three things are the best teams in basketball.”

Iowa-native Katie Muller was fun to watch, this morning, as well. Her older sister Ellie is a member of #Mizzou's 2026 recruiting class.
The pair played together at Dowling Catholic & now Katie has a slew of Power-4 offers, as well.

A THREAD: Got to watch some good hoops, this morning!
Some of the nation's top players in CoMo for some EYBL action. Here's a look at some players to watch, if you're a fan of #Mizzou women's hoops.
St. Louis native Jordyn Haywood is DEFINITELY one to watch, as she's been offered by the Tigers.
The sophomore is No. 5 on ESPN's 2028 Terrific 25 list, the MBCA Class 5 Player of the Year at MICDS & was on the 2025 USA Women's U16 National Team.
She'll be a big target for HC Kellie Harper.
3 stops and 3 baskets
Illinois just lost a game that they had 7 KILLS in. This is a massive outlier.
👇🏼
Mike Brey calls them KILLS.
Tony Bennett calls them GAPS.
Bruce Weber calls them SHUTOUTS.
Buzz Williams calls them TURKEYS.
If you're looking for a defensive stat that is arguably the most PREDICTIVE stat in basketball, it's 3 STOPS IN A ROW.
This isn't a stat you'll find on NBA.com or basketballreference.com but according to Mike Brey, who religiously tracked 3 stops in a row, win % is ~ 90% when you accomplish this 7 TIMES in a game.
Build your defense around stringing together consecutive stops. This allows for better scoring opportunities, gives you the ability to micro manage your defense during the game and most importantly provides a ton of ENERGY.
