The first picture is of me and my son Yaqub from June 2016, and the other is from now, June 2026.
There were difficult years in between, including when Yaqub received his #autism diagnosis.

In March 2012, while working with the BBC, I reported that @TurkishAirlines touched down in #Mogadishu, becoming the first major commercial airline to do so in more than 20 years.
Today, in March 2026, I arrived in Mogadishu flying with Turkish Airlines.
As I got off the plane, my mind flashed back to how Mogadishu’s Adan Abdulle International Airport looked that day.
At that time, the airport had only a name but lacked the facilities of an international airport.
Today, the airport has a good terminal with reasonable facilities, and many international flights regularly land.
