same setup, two directors. Claude picked water and gave a raindrop its whole life story, Gemini 4 went full nature doc and flew across America from Acadia to Hawaii. Muse shot the footage for both, and Claude wrapped its cut a lot faster. which director's film do you like more?
a world model where the people in the scene move, react and speak in real time is the part that matters. every new one makes game engines look more like a stopgap
1.9x faster Neural Engine over M5 is the line that matters. Local AI on a laptop keeps getting more realistic every generation.
Apple just announced the new 14-inch M6 MacBook Pro!

🚨 China's stock market is crashing
CN¥1.4 TRILLION ($210 billion) has been wiped out from China's stock market today as the CSI 300 fell 1.33%
The index is now down more than 20% over the last 4 months.
China's stock market is now officially in a bear market.
🚨 THE FIRST AI BUBBLE HAS BURST.
China's STAR50 index, which tracks the country's biggest AI and chip companies, has crashed 40% in less than four months.
That has wiped out about $480 billion in market value.
The damage has spread across the whole market.
China's main CSI 300 index is now in a bear market, down 20% from its June high, and Chinese stocks have lost $3.5 trillion in total value since their May peak.
China's two listed AI model companies, MiniMax and Zhipu, have lost a combined $150 billion from their highs.
Robot maker Unitree crashed 50% since its August listing, and optical parts makers Zhongji Innolight and Eoptolink are down about 60%.
The warning signs were already there.
At the peak, the STAR50 traded at almost 250 times earnings.
AI stocks made up 42% of China's entire stock market and 57% of all trading, mostly driven by retail investors.
Now look at the US.
AI-linked stocks make up 49% of the S&P 500's value, according to JPMorgan.
That's even higher than China's 42% before its crash.
The S&P 500's Shiller P/E ratio is above 40, the second highest in over 150 years.
The only time it was higher was right before the dot-com crash.
Margin debt, the money investors borrow to buy stocks, has hit a record $1.5 trillion.
And Anthropic just filed for an IPO that could value it at $2 trillion, after losing $80.7 billion in the first half of this year.
The US is now flashing the same warning signs China did before its AI stocks crashed.

🚨BREAKING: JAPAN WILL ASK EVERY CITIZEN TO STOCK FOOD, WATER AND TOILET SUPPLIES FOR AT LEAST 3 DAYS, IDEALLY 1 WEEK.
Britain, France, Germany and the EU have already told their people to keep emergency supplies ready.
Here's what's happening:
→ THE REQUEST: Disaster minister Goshi Hosono will issue an "emergency request" to every citizen, the central ministries and all prefectures on November 2.
→ 1 WEEK: He wants food, water and toilet supplies at home for "at least 3 days" and, "if possible, 1 week."
→ ON YOUR OWN: He wants every home able to get by "even without public help."
→ THE THREATS: a Nankai Trough quake, a quake right under Tokyo, giant quakes along the Japan and Chishima trenches, and a Mount Fuji eruption.
→ DAY ONE: Japan is LAUNCHING a new Disaster Management Agency that same day, and the request will come on its first day.
Think about this.
People in Japan saw the headline and asked online if World War 3 was coming.
The minister's own list is earthquakes and a volcano.
In 6 days, every citizen in Japan gets the same ask: 3 days at least, 1 week if possible.
Follow me. I'll post the full request on November 2, the day it goes out.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Japan’s government has long advised households to keep at least 3 days, and ideally about 1 week, of food and water at home for natural disasters such as earthquakes. This appears in the national Basic Disaster Management Plan and in Tokyo’s official preparedness guidance.

Shanghai's AI and chip index is down 40% from its June record and still trades near 100 times earnings. A 40% crash that still leaves the multiple at 100x tells you how high the starting point was.
JUST IN: Shanghai's STAR50 index of artificial intelligence and chip leaders closed 40% below its 30 June record on 26 October, erasing about US$480 billion, per a Reuters analysis.
After the crash it still trades near 100 times past earnings, down from nearly 250. The Nasdaq 100 sits around 30.
Reuters found no single trigger. Traders pointed to high prices, tax bills and fears that America or others could ban Chinese data center gear.
Artificial intelligence stocks make up 42% of China's market value and 57% of its trading, per Goldman Sachs.
Robot maker Unitree has halved since its August debut. Retail buyers had oversubscribed that listing 8,000 times.
The burst Reuters describes is in share prices.

China's stock market is in a free fall, and the CCP is pumping money in to try and stop it.
The countries equity markets have lost 3.5 trillion and the primary index has lost 20% of its value since June.
Consumption has collapsed in the country and corporate earnings are down, causing the stock crash.
Microsoft is offering a quarter of its staff an exit so it can keep paying for the data centers Anthropic and OpenAI run on. Headcount is quietly becoming the thing that funds compute.
Microsoft plans to offer buyouts to about 60,000 workers, over a quarter of its total staff, as it invests heavily in AI, with costly data centers supplying cloud services to the likes of Anthropic and OpenAI. bit.ly/4jN94bf
Anthropic lost $80.7 billion in six months, mostly by becoming worth more. About $72 billion of that is old convertible notes repriced to its higher valuation, and running the actual business lost under $700 million.
Anthropic has filed an S-1 registration statement with the SEC related to its proposed IPO.

The Marissa Mayer AI backlash isn't really about AI being bad at describing kids. Her assistant Dazzle went through the family camera roll and came back with "empathetic, creative and an animal lover," which is a perfectly nice answer. That's kind of the problem. When a teacher asks a parent for three things about their kid, they're not collecting data. They're getting you to stop and actually think about your kid for a minute, so the answer was never really the deliverable. Planning the birthday party? Sure, hand that off. Three words about your own kid is the kind of chore where skipping the effort skips the whole thing.

Gas-only cars just lost their majority worldwide, and the funny part is who's replacing them. Hybrids actually outsold full EVs in the first half of the year, so most of the cars taking their spot still pull up to the pump anyway.
Elon says debt markets have mostly shut off any AI data center company without large outside revenue. If that holds, GPU infrastructure splits into two businesses.
One has other cash engines to service the debt. The other only rents chips and lives on refinancing.
Chamath's point about stranded compute lands on the second group first, since loan payments don't pause when utilization drops. Consolidation then looks less like collapse and more like strong balance sheets buying capacity at a discount.
Replying to @chamath
Pretty much.
As of the past few weeks, debt markets have almost entirely shut off access to money for any company that doesn’t have substantial revenue independent of AI data centers.
SpaceX closed $40B of debt for GPUs, but we’re investment grade and have Starlink & launch revenue.
That means the 200+ neoclouds are going to see guppy-level death and consolidation. Some will make it through, but not many.
33 engines lit at once and the booster's whole job was to go absolutely nowhere. A full-duration static fire is one of the last big checks before the next Starship flight, and that much thrust held down on the pad still looks unreal.
