A note on Paraguay: we aren’t just mad because we can’t access our money (although that in itself is awful), but because said bank went bankrupt because they used PUBLIC FUNDS to give out GIGANTIC loans to people connected to the president

Professor Benjamin's warning that "black faces in high places won't save us" is even truer today, as servants of AIPAC ascend to the leadership of Congress, and a major proponent of Cop City becomes governor elect of GA. Benjamin's wise words apply of course to neoliberal tools of all racial backgrounds.
BLACK FACES IN HIGH PLACES WON'T SAVE US As the fascist nature of imperial policy is being amplified by the Trump administration, the neoliberal policies that have paved the way are often overlooked. Often, they are even pushed by so-called opposition Democrats - a party that just defeated Trump's Republican Party. Today, we revisit a powerful moment from April 2024, when Professor Ruha Benjamin addressed this idea during a speech at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. Far away from the white supremacist aesthetic of MAGA, the African-American Democratic leadership that has pushed imperial policy helped expose the simple fact that “Black faces in high places are not going to save us,” as Professor Benjamin expressed. In other words, we cannot assume that fellow Black individuals will protect our rights solely because they occupy positions of professional, political, or economic influence. One of the most potent examples of this sentiment, alluded to by Professor Benjamin, is the multiple vetoes by former U.S. Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield of UN Security Council resolutions demanding an "immediate ceasefire" in G*za. Accusations flung in 2024 by the then head of US Africa Command (AFRICOM), General Michael E. Langley, at Burkina Faso's revolutionary President Ibrahim Traoré are another glaring example. Langley, just like former US President Barack Obama, who oversaw US military operations across the African continent, represents imperialist militarism that has torn many countries apart over the decades. Faces and voices like theirs are used to advance imperialist interests and maintain systems of global exploitation, as well as the US military-industrial complex, all under the illusion of inclusion. Somalia and Libya have already borne the brunt of US power. Today, Washington continues its aggression against Iran, the same year it kidnapped Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, a South American leader who dared to stand up against fascism and imperialism. This is another act of aggression, among other U.S. violations of international law, that has been met with utter silence from the Black neoliberal ruling class.

💬 @_mkonieczny w @OnetRano: ‼️Edukacja, mieszkalnictwo i ochrona zdrowia wymagają stabilnego finansowania, a wykręcanie się „krótką kołdrą budżetową” to niechęć do uszczelnienia systemu. Pieniądze w budżecie są - wystarczy opodatkować spekulantów mieszkaniowych, deweloperskie pustostany oraz załatać ewidentne dziury podatkowe, przez które giganty franczyzowe nie płacą podatku detalicznego. System podatkowy wymaga odwagi: wprowadzenia jednolitej daniny i progresji, by ci, którzy zyskują najwięcej, sprawiedliwie dokładali się do wspólnego budżetu.

The only good thing about this is that the denialists will finally have to stop denying. Then again, no one likes to admit being fooled.
DELCY APPOINTS FORMER OPPOSITION FIGURE AS VENEZUELA'S FOREIGN MINISTER Venezuela's acting president Delcy Rodríguez has appointed Oliver Blanco, a longtime opposition political aide with no ties to the ruling PSUV, as the country's new Foreign Minister. Blanco previously worked alongside Henry Ramos Allup, a prominent opponent of Chavismo, before joining Rodríguez's administration following the U.S. military operation that bombed Caracas and forcibly removed Nicolás Maduro in January. Just four days after being named Foreign Minister, Blanco met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington, where they discussed institutional reforms and preparations for elections in 2027. Meanwhile, opposition leader María Corina Machado has returned to Venezuela, just as Washington has secured major oil agreements, and pressure continues to grow for a political transition away from Chavismo. Rodríguez describes her government's political opening as a step toward national reconciliation and peace, but what does that mean for the PSUV or Chavismo? Is this a strategy to preserve Chavista influence through negotiations, or does it facilitate the political transformation Washington and especially Marco Rubio have sought for decades?

The midterms broke all records for oligarch money poisoning elections, with over 70% of superPAC donations exceeding $1 million per contribution! No wonder both parties keep lurching to the right. Thanks to Andy Ellis, Maryland can have a people-powered choice in 2028. 🙏💚

Not just impeachment. Hegseth deserves to go to the Haig.
🚨🇺🇸🇮🇷 Massie is forcing a vote to impeach Pete Hegseth next week... and Republicans tell CNN it’s going to PASS Massie triggers the vote when the House returns, and GOP sources expect their own majority to let it through, which would make Hegseth the first cabinet secretary impeached since 1876, by his own party. The case from inside the GOP: he sold Trump a fast, easy war with no exit and kept pushing escalation after the bombing stopped working. One administration official’s verdict: “I think he probably knows he’s dead but would like an exit sufficiently dramatic that it gives him a launching pad to run for POTUS.” Trump isn’t there yet. He told Hegseth days ago “you’re the best guy I have,” and a Democratic Senate won’t confirm a replacement. Source: CNN / Writer: Daniel

Democrats maintain their grip on power, even as they betray working people, by stoking fears of the far right. As long as Americans remain convinced there’s no alternative, America’s fascist slide to the right will continue with bipartisan enthusiasm.
