On Thursday, 15 October 2026, the Chargé d’Affaires, Amb. Philip Odida, paid a courtesy call on Hon. Idi Mukhtar Maiha, Minister of Livestock Development of the Federal Republic of Nigeria @Ngfmld, at his office. The visit reaffirmed Uganda’s interest in partnering with Nigeria across the livestock development sector, with a view to strengthening bilateral trade and cooperation. The Minister noted that the Nigerian Government had closely followed Uganda’s progress in livestock development, particularly its work on indigenous breeds. Both sides acknowledged that their respective national livestock policies are guided by shared objectives: supporting household incomes, improving food security, creating employment opportunities, and promoting trade, with particular emphasis on the livelihoods of pastoral and agro-pastoral communities. The visit follows the successful Uganda - Nigeria Business Forum, held in Kampala from 9 to 11 September 2026, and reflects the two countries’ continued commitment to deepening bilateral economic cooperation. Amb. Odida was accompanied by his colleague, Ambassador Sam Omara (PhD), and a delegation led by Chief Michael Awunor, President of the Nigeria–Uganda Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NUCCIMA).

🇺🇬|🇰🇪GEN. MBADI CALLS FOR ACTION ON TRADE BARRIERS AT UGANDA-KENYA JOINT TECHNICAL COMMITTEE While closing the #JTC on trade, Gen.@wilson_mbadi, Minister of State @mtic_uganda, has called for urgent action to address persistent trade barriers between Uganda and Kenya, saying delays in implementing agreed measures weaken regional integration. “Kenya remains one of Uganda’s most important trading partners, while Uganda remains an important market for Kenyan goods and services,” Gen.@wilson_mbadi said, noting the strong economic interdependence between the two countries. He highlighted Uganda’s concern over the growing trade imbalance, stressing: “We are simply saying, provide an environment that allows fair trade and competitiveness. Uganda wants to export more products to the Kenyan market, just like you have access to our market.” Gen.@wilson_mbadi called for improved coordination at Busia and Malaba border points, stronger One-Stop Border Posts and accelerated development of alternative crossings, including Suam and Lwakhakha. “When matters are repeatedly discussed, commitments are made, and yet implementation remains slow or nonexistent, the credibility of the regional integration process is weakened,” he said. While closing the #JTC on trade, Gen.@wilson_mbadi, witnessed the signing of the Agreed Minutes by the Permanent Secretaries of the Trade Ministries of Uganda and Kenya. Reaffirming Uganda’s commitment to Kenya and the East African Community, Gen.@wilson_mbadi said: “We have no interest in confrontation. Our interest is in building a stronger, more integrated and more prosperous East Africa,” urging both sides to translate the #JTC resolutions into concrete action.

🇺🇬 Happy 64th Independence Day, Uganda! Today, we celebrate the freedom, resilience and spirit that define our nation. We honour those who carried the dream of an independent Uganda and, 64 years on, we continue that journey with hope, unity and a shared belief in what our country can become. As Dr. Martin Aliker reminds us: “Independence is the right to rule yourselves as a nation, the right to determine your own future.” Here’s to Uganda Our home, our heritage and our future. 🇺🇬 #UgandaAt64 #IndependenceDay #Uganda

#NOW: 🇺🇬|🇰🇪 Speaking at the 2nd Uganda - Kenya JTC on trade, @LynetteBagonza, PS @mtic_uganda has called for decisive action to address trade barriers between Uganda and Kenya, noting that Uganda’s bilateral trade deficit widened from US$76M to US$592.3M in the first half of FY2025/26. “Uganda does not seek to reduce bilateral trade or achieve an artificial balance in trade. Rather, Uganda seeks a substantial expansion of trade,” she said. She noted that Uganda’s deficit with Kenya stood at US$432.62M in July 2026, underscoring the need for improved market access for Ugandan products. “The concern is therefore the structure and conditions under which trade takes place,” she said, calling for decisive action on outstanding non-tariff barriers and other restrictions affecting Ugandan exports. She urged both sides to turn agreed resolutions into an actionable implementation matrix with clear timelines and responsible institutions.
