Poverty is about more than how much money someone earns. It’s being hungry. Living without electricity. A child missing school. A good, dependable job can help change that. It can bring stability, open up choices and give people the chance to plan for the future. Everyone deserves that chance. #EndPoverty #PovertyDay

Capacity to recover 1,500 tonnes of materials annually and 50 green jobs are among the targets of the EU-funded 9Rs project in Aqaba. This builds on UNDP’s work in Jordan since 2015 to move from safer waste disposal towards systems that recover resources, reduce costs and support green livelihoods. The 9Rs Creative Circular Economy Centre, currently under development through UNDP’s partnership with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), is designed to support resource efficiency, innovation and green entrepreneurship. During her visit to Aqaba, UN Assistant Secretary-General Susan Brown, Director of UNDP’s Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy, visited the centre’s construction site to review progress in its development. #UNDPJordan50 @EUinJordan

Access to digital financial and banking services is only the starting point. Meaningful inclusion depends on whether women can use these services safely, confidently and regularly to support their businesses and economic activities. @UNDPJordan and the @UNDP -hosted @BetterThan_Cash , in collaboration with UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Arab States, convened the regional learning exchange, “From Pilot to Policy: Lessons from Jordan for Advancing Women-Centred Digital Financial Inclusion Across the Arab States”. The exchange brought together policymakers, regulators, financial service providers, women entrepreneurs, development partners and practitioners. Drawing on the SDG Digital Finance Ecosystem Assessment, the Jordan Valley pilot and perspectives from across the region, discussions focused on the practical policy, product, infrastructure and financial capability measures needed to close the gap between access, initial adoption and sustained use in Jordan, while drawing lessons that can inform women-centred approaches across the Arab States. – at Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan
