Donor coordination is necessary, especially in today's world where we all have to do more with less. Yes, but it is easier said than done. No one disagrees. It is critical for humanitarian assistance and development effectiveness. It must be done. Then comes the real question: HOW? This #GIRAF session by @ElGherbalOrg brought together great panelists and provided useful insights. Here are some 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼 ☑️ Coordination is not just a technical question, it is also political. It is not solved by a dashboard. It requires government leadership, donor leadership, frank dialogues, societal engagement, an appetite for risk and compromise, an understanding of competing interests and readiness to seek related alignments. ☑️ Coordination also requires data. Transparency is key and so is the need for related standards, quality checks and verification processes. ☑️ Coordination is most impactful when it goes beyond simple exchanges of information on "projects". It can be used to inform strategic planning, shape advocacy messages, and support accountability. ☑️ Coordination cannot take place without mutual trust. Building that trust is a process and it can be very challenging. It is almost impossible to achieve without regular meetings, safe spaces, and competent facilitators. ☑️ Coordination must be anchored in some level of national planning on the side of both the donors and the recipients, but what happens when one is missing? Well, not much coordination! ☑️ Coordination is not a zero sum game: either all agree on everything or no one agrees on anything. There will always be different views, interests, and realities at play. Coordination helps create a track record for learning, accountability and innovation, but then again, maybe not everybody is interested in that 🤷🏻‍♂️❗ Thanks again for El Gherbal and the wonderful panelists. It's been a full decade since I had the distinct honor of working at #UNDP with a small group of bright minds to design Sectoral Corruption Risk Management (#SCRM). Today, it's adopted and implemented by an ever-growing number of countries and is being regularly introduced to new sectors by a community of trained experts. Every once in a while, I get to have the pleasure of introducing to a new sector myself. This time, it was in Tunisia, and the sector was Social Affairs - one of the most sensitive and human sectors, where corruption directly impacts the dignity and lives of people. Grateful to @UNDPinTunisia for the opportunity, and to our 🇹🇳 partners for their commitment, and to all colleagues who have carried SCRM forward over the last 1️⃣0️⃣ years.
