United Neighborhood Houses is a policy and social change organization representing neighborhood #SettlementHouses reaching 840K New Yorkers.

Joined June 2011
As a federation of settlement houses whose neighborhood-based, multi-service approach improves the lives of New Yorkers, we are grateful for this work!
We’re expanding the city’s discretionary grant pilot program to speed up funding for the nonprofits that serve New Yorkers every day. Now, 800 nonprofit partners are on track to receive funding within 30 days — cutting months of red tape so they can spend less time on paperwork and more time serving our communities.

It was truly an honor to join @UNHNY on behalf of @GovKathyHochul to accept the Mary Kingsbury Simkhovitch Award for Visionary Public Service. This recognition is meaningful, as Governor Hochul is building a New York where families have the support they need to thrive.

Today, we are reminded of how important it is to unite, care for our neighbors, and cultivate communities where everyone is safe and protected. We will continue to protect New Yorkers and fight for a New York where everyone lives with dignity and safety.

Late payments and contract registrations are the unfortunate norm for the nonprofit human services sector. We're thankful for @CMRestler who is tackling this issue at City Hall! cityandstateny.com/nyn-media…

Since 1965, settlement houses have worked with the federal government to provide Head Start. The federal administration is proposing to gut the program, endangering 50,000 children in NY. "This is not how we treat our public school system" - @nk_moran spectrumlocalnews.com/nys/bi…

Honored to have our ED, Susan Stamler, recognized in @CityAndStateNY's 2026 Above & Beyond: Social Services! From expanding SYEP to advancing universal child care (like 2-K), Susan's work embodies the advocacy the settlement house movement was built on. cityandstateny.com/power-lis…

Thank you Rosie for highlighting such an important issue that affects our most vulnerable New Yorkers! Our settlement houses come to us month after month informing us that skimming is worse than it's ever been, largely affecting our immigrant older adults.

"[NYCBenefits is] absolutely the path to fulfilling the mayor’s promise that the city would become more affordable and economically stable" @CenterforFamSP We are grateful to @NYCCouncil for listening to advocates / providers and putting $11.7M for FY27 in the city budget!

📢Thousands of New Yorkers could lose access to vital resources if NYC Benefits funding is not included in the FY27 city budget. That means families struggling to afford food or get care. We can still stop this, but NYC leaders MUST ACT NOW. @HenryStreet @UNHNY @NMICnyc

We are stronger when we embrace our neighbors — no matter where they are from. UNH condemns the federal administration's decision to revoke TPS for Haiti and Syria. Stripping protections from our neighbors is a betrayal to our values. We call on leaders to act with conscience.
