Today the UN flag is lowered globally in solidarity with over 1,000 aid workers killed in past three years.
We lower our flags. We remember our friends and colleagues. We demand accountability for those who killed them.

I am angry.
In Busuma, 54,000+ refugees, mostly women and children, are surviving with too little food, water & shelter.
They are not able to meet their basic needs.
The capacity to fix this exists. What’s missing is the will. That is unacceptable, and it is on all of us.

Addressing internal displacement needs more than humanitarian action.

🌍 What does the future hold for the #UN development system in an era of shrinking aid budgets, rising geopolitical tensions, and growing global fragmentation?
In this short conversation, #NYUCIC Senior Fellow Robert Piper (@UNPiper) speaks with the Director of our Multilateral Reform program, Betty Wainaina (@BettyNyamburaW1), about the mounting pressures facing multilateral cooperation, the unfinished business of UN reform, and what must change for the international system to remain effective in today’s world. 🤝
The discussion draws on Robert’s latest CIC paper, “Unfinished Business: Coming to Terms with the New Financial and Political Realities Facing the UN’s Development Ecosystem.” 📘

🇸🇸 While our attention is divided among multiple crises, let’s not forget the mass #displacement of population and the horrendous attacks against civilians in #SouthSudan.
All parties must comply with international law.
All movement must be voluntary, safe and dignified.
South Sudan: @volker_turk urges immediate ceasefire, horrified by growing accounts of serious violations including killings of civilians, destruction and poisoning of key water sources, and fresh waves of mass displacement.

I join my colleagues in raising my voice and standing in solidarity with @FranceskAlbs. Personal attacks against UN human rights independent experts are simply unacceptable.

Heartbroken by all the suffering I have seen the last 5 days in South Kordofan, Sudan.
This is the worst conflict within the worst humanitarian crisis in the world today.
Tens of thousands have fled hunger and bombing in the main city of Kadugli, where an armed blockade prevents us from getting in aid to the famine-stricken population.

🇸🇸 I am deeply concerned by the reports coming out of #SouthSudan. The safety and dignity of internally displaced persons must be protected. I urge all parties to cease hostilities, and to ensure civilians' access to aid.
@OCHASouthSudan
Renewed attacks mainly in Jonglei and Unity states have triggered large-scale displacements and severely disrupted aid operations in South Sudan.
Humanitarians are responding but the available resources exceed the scale of the crisis.

In my op-ed, jointly written with Hon. Minister @fmha_pa @dr_bernarddoro, we note that Nigeria’s humanitarian reset will succeed only if local and national leadership, & domestic resource mobilisation take centre stage. The time to act is now. More👉 shorturl.at/g2b60
