But is it the one you really wanted to win?’ I don’t understand why you would say something like that to a young player who has just won an award on one of the biggest nights in football.
“Lamine is still a teenager, he has achieved things that many experienced footballers can only dream of, and instead of congratulating him properly, you choose to remind him that he didn’t win the Ballon d’Or. What exactly was he supposed to do? Refuse the Kopa Trophy because he wanted something bigger?

Think about it for a moment. Lamine Yamal is standing there after receiving the Kopa Trophy, an award that recognises him as one of the best young players in world football, and the first thing you do is question whether it is the trophy he really wanted.
“What kind of message does that send? You are essentially telling him that the award he has won is not the one that matters. That is completely unnecessary, especially coming from someone as experienced and respected as you.
“And let’s not pretend Lamine has achieved nothing. His performances at Barcelona and for Spain have already put him among the most exciting young talents in football. He has the pressure of an entire fanbase on his shoulders, people constantly comparing him to Lionel Messi, and millions of people analysing every move he makes. The last thing he needs is a football legend making him feel as though his achievement is something to be disappointed about.
🗣️ Thierry Henry: “But Luis, nobody is denying his talent. Everyone knows how good Lamine Yamal is. The Ballon d’Or is the biggest individual award in football, and naturally, a player of his ambition wants to win it. I was simply asking a question. People are allowed to have a sense of humour.”

You can joke with your friends in private, but when you are standing in front of the entire football world, speaking to a teenager who has just won an important award, you should understand the responsibility that comes with your position.
“You have played at the highest level. You know what it feels like to win the biggest trophies, and you know how much individual recognition means to footballers. So why make that moment about the award he didn’t win instead of celebrating the one he did?
“And honestly, there is no way I can look at that comment and automatically dismiss it as a joke. If someone makes a young player question whether his achievement is worth celebrating, then we have every right to question whether that comment was appropriate.
🗣️ Luis Figo: “Lamine Yamal deserved to enjoy that moment. He deserved congratulations, respect and recognition for what he has accomplished at such a young age. He did not need somebody reminding him that he had missed out on the Ballon d’Or.
“Thierry Henry is a football legend, and that is precisely why I expected more from him. Being a legend is not just about what you achieved on the pitch; it is also about how you conduct yourself and how you treat the next generation of footballers.
“You can disagree with the Ballon d’Or results, you can debate who deserved to win, and you can even joke about football awards. But there is a time and a place for everything. In my opinion, that was neither the time nor the place.”

My old friend asked me to sleep with her husband to save their marriage. The craziest part? Apparently, he was the one who requested me. 😳
I hadn’t seen her in almost three years until we bumped into each other at a shopping centre. We exchanged numbers again, and a few days later, she invited me to lunch.
During our conversation, she admitted that her marriage had been struggling ever since her husband discovered she’d been secretly exchanging romantic messages with another man.
They had started counselling, but things were still awkward between them. According to her, her husband no longer felt comfortable being intimate with her, even though he still wanted sex.
Then she dropped the bombshell.
She wanted to give him permission to sleep with another woman just once, hoping it would help him move past the hurt and decide whether he still wanted their marriage.
I assumed she was joking until she told me they had already discussed it and he had specifically asked if I would be willing.
I was speechless.
She explained that she trusted me not to pursue him afterward and thought choosing someone familiar would feel safer than involving a stranger.
But the more she explained, the more uncomfortable I became. This wasn’t some casual arrangement between strangers. It involved two people trying to repair a marriage that was already badly damaged.

Applicant: “My daughter is graduating from college. She’s been asking me to come for two years.”
Visa Officer: “How long do you plan to stay?”
Applicant: “Ten days. I have a business to return to.”
Visa Officer: “Who is paying for the trip?”
Applicant: “I am.”
Visa Officer: “Your daughter sent you money last month. What was that for?”
Applicant: “She helped me pay for the flight.”
Visa Officer: “You just said you’re paying for the trip.”
Applicant: “I am paying for the hotel and my other expenses. She offered to help with the ticket.”
The officer looked at the documents again.
Visa Officer: “If your daughter can afford to help you travel, why can’t she pay for the entire trip?”
Applicant: “Because I didn’t raise her to be responsible for every expense I have.”

My friend was offended because nobody praised him for taking his daughter to the pediatrician for the first time.
He has a three-year-old girl.
Last week, his wife had to work and asked him to take their daughter to her appointment.
Later, he mentioned in our group chat that he’d spent almost two hours at the doctor’s office.
He said he finally understood why his wife always complained about those things.
I asked if everything had gone well.
He said yes, but he’d expected at least a thank-you.
