As part of our once in a generation reforms to the curriculum, Key Stage 3 will get the focus it needs to be engaging, exciting, and richer so that more children participate and progress.
To do this, schools should not routinely bring forward GSCE content and options into this important and distinct part of a child’s education.

Mark Remembrance Day with a meaningful, easy-to-set-up activity. Create a poppy using a paper plate, paint and scissors. Use your creations to make a display while learning about the different poppy colours and what they represent.
🔴 Red: Remembers those who lost their lives on active service and honours the wider Armed Forces community.
⚪️ White: Remembers all victims of war, both military and civilian, and represents a commitment to peace.
🟣 Purple: Honours animals who served and suffered in war.

The National Literacy Trust 2026 survey showed some positive signs with reading enjoyment rising in 2026 after four years of decline.
More than 1 in 3 children and young people said they enjoyed reading in their free time. Among children aged 5 to 8, enjoyment remained high overall, but fell slightly from 62.6% in 2025 to 61.6% in 2026, driven by a decrease in boys’ enjoyment levels.
