Cardiologist Dr. @UmaValeti set out to use stem cells to re-grow heart muscle, to help heart attack patients, when he discovered a way to “grow” meat directly from animal cells without having to slaughter animals. cbsn.ws/3Da2IvG

Soft launching +EV: plusev.tech/. @EV_Fellowship I think this is *very* important for the world.. Otherwise I'd retire 🫠 Notes: > It's NOT a venture fund > The goal is to unblock top ambition/talent, underserved young people with big dreams. Where do small grants/mentorship make a *real* difference? > Every company and person helping/contributing time, capital, compute credits is (obviously) doing this pro-bono. > The goal is ambition with social good in *some* way... Meme coin trading apps, etc aren't the target. Again, this isn't a venture fund. > Literally launching, so be patient if website issues etc > If you want to help, please email: [email protected]! > With the rise of AI, most applications for anything get a lot of noise & bullshit... It's easy to spam them! The vast majority of people will be rejected for obvious reasons. If you don't get an interview, you're rejected. The point of this is to cater to the top 1% underserved, young people who *could* change the world but don't have the connections, capital, mentorship. This does *not* cater to the 99%. > Decisions are made by an independent committee. Harvard iLab mentors, ex/current founders, VCs, etc.

I wrote about the contradiction at the heart of MAHA’s meat fixation: eating more of it will only exacerbate the very problems that the movement purportedly wants to solve. newrepublic.com/article/2141…

The easy decision is to stop relying on conventional animal agriculture.

In my 25+ years advocating for better treatment of farm animals, I’ve never seen so many thought leaders and elected officials from both right and left unite to defeat an anti-animal bill. Some things are bigger than political tribalism, and basic decency toward animals is one of them. Here's a small sample of those speaking out against including SOB in the farm bill. 🧵

This is chicken you can feel good about serving. Grown from real chicken cells. No compromise on flavor. For people who care about what they eat.

We're just here making meat without harming animals, and then @MrBeast shows up for a taste test!
I see so much negativity about the future so I thought it’d be fun to showcase the positive things that could fundamentally change humanity for the better in our new video :D youtu.be/pAnGwRiQ4-4?si=_6oQ…

Instead of raising animals in conventional ways, UPSIDE keeps a master cell bank: a collection of high-quality animal cells that can be stored, thawed, and used to grow meat whenever needed. That means less waste, less mess, and more food for more people.

yeah! 100 billion lives a year - protect them and keep our choices alive! Thanks for sharing this @JeffNippard 🐥🐓🐄 🐷🥓🍔🍗
I’m eating lab grown meat the second it’s mass market ready. It’s biologically identical to animal meat and will reduce suffering more than any technology in the history of our planet as long as enough people switch over from factory farmed meats.

Yes x 100Billion life’s every year @DrewSav
Opposition to lab grown meat is just mindless hysteria. If we can recreate the taste and texture of meat without any of the associated negatives, people should be happy. If we no longer have to raise and slaughter billions of animals a year that would be great for our planet.

If your meats so good then surely you’re not scared of competition

They are just afraid of a little competition!
How is this remotely consistent with the decades-long claim of conservatives that they believe in the free market? If people want to purchase and consume lab-grown meat -- for health or ethical or any reason -- why should the state bar them from doing so?

Florida, Alabama, and now Montana have all pointlessly banned lab-grown meat. I know a lab-grown meat startup that had to move from Florida after their ban, and now they're just back in California. They avoided Texas because of the risk of them banning the stuff, too.

If Montana beef is the best…why spend millions of dollars banning Cultivated Meat that requires NO killing and is a TRUE American Innovation? Compete as TRUE cowboys would, don’t be afraid of a little competition!!! 🐮 @GovGianforte @UPSIDEfoods
So-called "lab-grown meat" has no place in Montana. By signing HB 401 into law, I am proud to defend our way of life and the hardworking Montana ranchers who produce the best beef in the world.

Well said
One of the most egregious examples of paid-for politicians forcibly holding back a wildly beneficial technology to protect corporate interests. It is an affront to freedom, stripping citizens of the option to spare animals and the environment in their meat consumption.

I met with the Honorable Governor Pillen of Nebraska recently. While the push to ban cultivated meat in Nebraska came without initial dialogue, I appreciate his willingness to now engage. @TeamPillen @NeDeptAg We had a productive conversation—and I look forward to working with him and others to ensure Nebraskans aren’t denied consumer choice or a chance to diversify our food system. Thankfully a number of Nebraska ranchers are pushing back on banning cultivated meat and shared that 'stifling competition in a free market should be anathema in a Republican-dominated state like Nebraska". Innovation strengthens our food system and builds a more resilient, domestically produced supply. 👉apnews.com/article/nebraska-… 👉ksnblocal4.com/2025/04/17/de… 👉xitter.cf/UmaValeti/status/19056… #CultivatedMeat #FoodSecurity #Nebraska #FutureOfFood #Choice

Innovation. Choice. Domestic manufacturing. They’re good for everyone — including the meat industry. I ran a poll on X, and another on LinkedIn. Different platforms, different political leanings, different people. Same result. People across the spectrum believe in protecting the American spirit — by building, not banning. There’s been noise around “cultivated” meat bans in a few states — but most people see through it and want progress. This is bigger than politics — it’s about domestic leadership, ingenuity, and creating opportunity across the food system. Let’s build. 🚀 #FoodTech #CultivatedMeat #FutureOfFood #support-it-manufacturing-systems
