It was so impactful to me that I recreated it in stop motion
I remember telling my friend after EVO that I wanted to see Fraymakers get more recognition as a competitive game, that I wanted to give Fraymakers a bigger platform and that I wanted to stand on that big stage at some point playing Fray. Platfight is THE event for this. 1/?
On my way home from PlatFight now. Thank you to everyone who played, watched, volunteered, worked, and supported the event in any capacity. (Thanks @OlegakaPastah for supporting!)
This event has always been extremely special to me not only because of the opportunity for the nasb community, but also the broader platform fighting game community. So often, people will doom and think their game is dead, or that games they used to play don't have a chance of ever getting the spotlight, or generally struggle otherwise to build a positive reputation. PlatFight has time and time again provided chances for the broader platform fighting game audiences to realize so many of these games have communities and are passionate to share their games with others, but also it provides an opportunity for so many to experience these games potentially for the first time. Its amazing to realize not only do you have something else you seriously enjoy, but also get the chance to see it played at top level, see it offline, and have it get its flowers.
I wish everyone would buy into the idea more because truly it's a beautiful work of art. Your game isn't featured? Consider applying for the Community games side! So many games like Icons, Rushdown Revolt, Duck Game, etc could all be featured as a side game if their communities wanted to play it at the event. We had Sonic Scramble show up and get an amazing audience and fun bracket, we had Smash 4, Brawl, and other games ran as well and had huge showings and appreciation for fans of it there.
So many players like Mof, Fiction, Salt, ThundeRzReiGN and others all got to play in games that they enjoyed and still got to find time to prioritize their main games. A good friend of mine @RapGodObi entered basically every event and got to experience so much due to how many games he was a fan of.
While some scenes like Smash ultimate may not have bought into the event as much, it's not just them. Its important to recognize other scenes that low key didn't show up.
Slap City, AFQM, Brawlhalla and other scenes need to lock in and contribute their love to this event as well. This was AFQMs first proper offline event at this scale and there just wasn't a passion for it. Your community needs to experience what it's like offline cuz it's genuinely beautiful. It trumps any other experience of the game. I know it can be tough to see the point of going, but half the fun of an event like this is to positively promote your game to a ton of people who have literally never even heard of it. You can grow your scenes or in some cases "save it".
I feel that PlatFight 2024 legitimized NASB2 and seriously helped it get into people's heads as a game that is worth playing and appreciating. I think the same could be done for Brawlhalla, AFQM, Slap, and any other games that lack grassroots offline experiences.
Numbers don't matter. If your community cares take the risk, show up, work your ass off to show everything you love about your community and the scene, and nothing but good things will occur.
Much love and I hope there are more Platfights in the future. As a fan of the genre this event is probably the most important thing to ever exist imo.
They have their priorities set with custom content but that's not what's in the spotlight of the competitive scene. The base content is and that's what we compete in and THAT is what Platfight gives us an opportunity to showcase. Kinda wish I coulda said a word on that stage-
The assists.
Congratulations to @Necroflyer for winning Fraymakers at Platfight!
