If you've ever wondered whether you should apply for a nationally competitive scholarship, let 2024 Gilman Scholar Tamia Starks' story be your reminder: don't count yourself out before you begin.

Graphic. Quote from Tamia Starks. While applying for the Gilman scholarship, I felt I was not up to par for a nationally competitive scholarship. I was encouraged to apply regardless of my doubts, and it was such a rewarding experience, regardless of whether I received the scholarship. End quote. Tamia Starks.
