AI literacy is a governance and workforce-to-workflow question, not just a training one.
At a Wolters Kluwer-sponsored session at Becker's 11th Annual IT + Revenue Cycle Conference on Sept. 15, physician and informatics leaders unpacked what literacy requires at every level. Panelists included Brian Hasselfeld, MD, of Johns Hopkins Medicine; John-Paul Mead, MD, of Centralus Health; Joseph Thomas, MD, of Baptist Memorial Healthcare; and Amanda Heidemann, MD, of Wolters Kluwer Health.
Their four takeaways included:
* Literacy is role-specific.
* Governance must stay adaptive.
* Trust requires both evidence and guardrails.
* Surface your AI-native workforce, and hear the skeptics.

A pregnant patient without HIV reports ongoing receptive vaginal sex with a partner of unknown HIV status and requests HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). She prefers an injectable option if it is effective and safe in pregnancy. Which statement best reflects current guidance and evidence for PrEP options in this setting?
A. Only daily oral tenofovir disoproxil fumarate-emtricitabine is recommended for receptive vaginal sex during pregnancy; injectable options are not recommended
B. Shared decision-making is endorsed, and long-acting cabotegravir and lenacapavir are effective for preventing HIV through vaginal exposure with no increase in adverse birth outcomes identified in trial participants who became pregnant
C. On-demand dosing of tenofovir alafenamide-emtricitabine is preferred during pregnancy because it has the most efficacy data for vaginal exposure
D. Injectable PrEP is contraindicated in pregnancy due to increased adverse birth outcomes
Give your answer in the comments! 👇

The correct answer is: B. Guidelines endorse shared decision-making for PrEP selection in pregnant people or those of childbearing potential; while there is the most experience with daily tenofovir disoproxil fumarate-emtricitabine for vaginal exposure, cabotegravir and lenacapavir have been highly effective in preventing HIV through vaginal exposure in trials, and no increase in adverse birth outcomes was identified among those who became pregnant in those studies.
