Dear #actors,
I have never seen a casting director seek out the most beautiful actor. They look for faces that tells stories and build worlds! Embrace your differences/quirks/flaws because we do.

Another holiday, another week of trying to explain my job to my very non-industry family
My dad: You should try to get on one of those Disney shows. I hear they’re really taking off

To evaluate a performance’s authenticity watch with the sound OFF.
Bad acting reveals itself instantly and insults you.
This is not a subtweet. I am talking about that murderer kid.
Popping in to say that if you’re not vaccinated, you are probably not being considered for roles. There are too many qualified, vaccinated actors that production doesn’t have the time or resources to offer vaccine exempt actors accommodations.
While you’re sharing the love, I speak from personal experience that casting directors, associates, and assistants all love thank you notes. Can you tell it’s gratitude week? 💖😇🤟
#actors Finding a self-tape partner who enhances your performance and doesn’t overwhelm the scene is a gift. We don’t really notice a good reader, but we do notice a bad one. Take a moment this week to send yours a thank you ❤️
#actors take a minute to thank your agent this week. With shutdowns and schedule changes they are workin hard for you ❤️💪🏆
There’s a special moment in casting where everything just falls into place. After months of searching for the perfect actor for a role, truly thinking we’d never find the one... we did! And the director is happy, studio is happy, I am happy 😊
Happy Friday everyone!
I generally don’t like to see props in self tapes but I especially don’t like to see firearms, knives, or fire! Seeing those makes me nervous to send you to set
Another day, another white male director looking at a list of diverse actors for a role that doesn’t specify the character’s race or gender.... and choosing the only white male option.
Very frustrating in the year 2021
When everything shut down I truly believed that I would never audition an actor in person again. Now, almost a year later a part of me still believes that. Of course it depends on a lot of outside factors but my guess is not for 2 more years.
Idk if this has been talked about before but there is a casting calls site whose marketing is so predator-y. “Star in your favorite tv show, sign up for a yearly subscription now” 🤢 and it pops up on my feed a lot
I love hearing perspectives on casting from other departments!
I personally have not seen this done on the casting end (because bottom lines aren’t really our job) but I have felt it in my heart (why does the barista NEED to call out the order?)

Dear #actors,
No one is going to ask you to be off book for your self-tape (because we’re literally not allowed to)... but when we watch tapes we can tell when you’re reading and often that really hurts a performance. How does it hurt your performance you ask? 1/4
This is something that has specifically come up post pandemic for my office. Pre-shutdown it was much less of an issue because we were working with actors in person and everyone came in ready to play. 3/4
