Gambling is illegal in Utah. Kalshi advertised its sports and election bets as “legal in all 50 states” anyway.
Utah is suing, alleging Kalshi kept taking bets from Utahns after a federal judge rejected its argument that Utah law doesn’t apply.

Kalshi is gambling. Calling it something else doesn’t change what it is. We’ve held the line against gambling since statehood, and we’re not backing down.
I applaud @UtahAG Derek Brown and his team for defending Utah’s right to enforce our laws and taking action against Kalshi today. They have our full support as they work to protect Utah families and hold these companies accountable.
Utah sues Kalshi, seeking up to $60 million in profit made off of Utahns
“These companies, they’re not your friends,” said @AGDerekBrown. “They’re not helping you invest, they’re not providing you with insights or opportunity. Frankly, they are engineered to do one thing and one thing alone: empty your wallet.” abc4.com/news/politics/utah-…
Utah secured nearly $1.9 million for consumers stuck in car loans their lender knew they couldn’t repay.
The Office and the Utah Division of Consumer Protection joined 40 other states in a $694 million settlement with Credit Acceptance Corp.
$1 million in debt, erased.
A $96.5 million settlement could put money back in your pocket. Utah and other states secured it from generic drug makers accused of inflating prices. If you bought certain generic drugs between May 2009 and December 2019, file by March 2027 at AGGenericDrugs.com
First-year BYU Law students spent the morning at the Office of the Utah Attorney General as part of BYU Law's Salt Lake City Walk Around.
Our attorneys shared what it means to serve as Utah's law firm: the work, the challenges, and the rewards of public practice.
The next generation of Utah lawyers saw government practice up close.
The first shipment of the 1,512,000 eggs Utah secured in its price-fixing case arrived at the Utah Food Bank today.
The Office sued three egg companies for coordinating to inflate the prices Utah shoppers pay. Utah's share of the settlement came as food for families.

One single county in Colorado—or anywhere in the country—should not be able to dictate energy policy for our entire nation.
Utahns never voted for Boulder's climate agenda, and they shouldn't pay for it on their gas bills.

There are two things that drive everything my office does: protecting Utah's kids and protecting Utah's right to decide for itself.

The Office stands with survivors and the advocates beside them.
Some of Utah's roads have carried families since before 1976.
Roads that old are protected under R.S. 2477, and their rights-of-way belong to Utah, not Washington.
The Office has gone to court and won to keep them open. Utah's land, Utah's call.

Seniors who spent a lifetime building something should not lose it to the people who target them.
Moderated a panel today on protecting seniors from abuse and financial exploitation at the NAAG Eastern Region Meeting in Philadelphia. The people who target our parents and grandparents should answer for it. Utah is watching.
Financial exploitation can devastate older adults and their families.
At the NAAG Eastern Region Meeting in Philadelphia, Attorney General Derek Brown joined state and federal partners to discuss strategies for preventing elder abuse, combating financial exploitation, and holding bad actors accountable.
Protecting older Utahns remains a priority for our office.

That “religious wording” was a reason that a family had their homeschool education funding stripped.
A California charter school rejected funding for that phrase, and because of historic works by early American figures like William Penn and Jonathan Edwards.
California pays for homeschool curriculum through these programs, but literally bans anything they deem religious. I led a coalition of states urging SCOTUS to hear Woolard v. Thurmond and end the discrimination.

California homeschool families can spend state funds on almost any math, reading, or science curriculum, unless the state deems it religious. That includes books by early American figures William Penn and Jonathan Edwards. Utah just led a coalition of states asking the Supreme Court to fix that.

Utah knows its own land best.
National Public Lands Day is here. The Office of the Utah Attorney General defends the state's authority over its roads and rights-of-way. Utahns have driven these routes since before 1976.
Public lands belong closest to the people who live on them.

Virginia students can use a state tuition grant for almost any major at a private college, unless officials decide it's “too religious.” Music education qualifies. Music, with worship, doesn't. Utah just joined 21 other states asking the Supreme Court to end the religious discrimination. 🔗 supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/2…
