Garrett Whitlock was pitching on a fractured right tibia that was not properly diagnosed until after the Red Sox were eliminated last week, per @gfstarr1. Whitlock is in a boot for 4-6 weeks, but surgery is not required and he’s on track to have a normal offseason and expects to be ready for spring training.
