Rewatching the exchanges between Simon Harris, James Brown and @Ben_Scallan on social housing. One thing stands out -
Harris and Brown say they already tightened policy to ensure ONLY people who are habitually resident get houses.
How big was/is that problem?

Sentencing Delayed So Fraudster Can Become Irish Citizen – Should Ireland Really Award Criminals Citizenship?
He pleaded guilty to deception. The charges relate to using a false RSA No Claims Bonus Certificate between December 2021 and May 2023 at Liberty Insurance in Cavan, and thereby securing a lower insurance quote reduced by €1,388.04.
A Portuguese interpreter was present in court. His solicitor, Frank Gearty, told Judge Bernadette Owens that citizenship was “imminent” and requested one final adjournment. The State raised no objection. He is due back on 16 February 2027.
That is the sum of the publicly reported facts from Longford Leader / Longford Live. The practical effect is clear. Sentencing is being deliberately delayed so a man who has already admitted fraud can complete the naturalisation process before any conviction is recorded against him.
Irish citizenship requires applicants to be of “good character.” A conviction for deception involving false documents to obtain cheaper insurance is, on any ordinary reading, evidence against that standard. Yet the court and the State are cooperating to ensure the application proceeds first. He still needs a Portuguese interpreter.
Whatever the length of his residence, he has not acquired sufficient English for court proceedings. That is not a minor detail when the claim is that he is ready to become a full citizen with the rights and responsibilities that entails.
Insurance fraud of this kind is not victimless. It contributes to higher premiums for everyone else. It is also a calculated act of dishonesty rather than a momentary lapse. Adjournment after adjournment so that the dishonest act does not complicate a citizenship application sends a simple message: the process of becoming Irish can be protected from the consequences of the applicant’s own criminal conduct.
Whether this is the result of judicial discretion, prosecutorial indifference, or policy elsewhere in the system, the outcome is the same. Justice is sequenced to the convenience of the citizenship application rather than the other way around. Once citizenship is granted, removal becomes far harder and any later sentence will be imposed on an Irish citizen. The public record so far shows a guilty plea to deception, repeated adjournments explicitly tied to the citizenship process, and a State that does not object. Those facts speak for themselves.
Should a conviction for fraud be allowed to stand in the way of Irish citizenship, or should the process of becoming a citizen take priority over the timing of justice?

At 11:10 this morning, the constituent who made the original Garda complaint contacted me after returning to the station to follow up on it. According to their account, the complaint had been deleted under guidance and three Gardaí physically escorted them out of the station.
When the constituent arrived, the desk Garda could find no record of the original complaint and went to speak to the sergeant. Fifty minutes later, the sergeant came out to the desk.
The sergeant said the receiving Garda had breached guidance and had been informed of that failure.
According to the constituent, the complaint had been deleted under guidance that complaints concerning the historical incident involving Talukdar were not to be accepted or investigated because the matter had already been dealt with.
The constituent objected. According to their account, the Gardaí became aggressive and three Gardaí physically escorted them out of the station.
No record. Complaint deleted. No investigation permitted under the reported guidance. A citizen physically escorted out after objecting.
This is what justice for Irish people looks like in Ireland in 2026.

This case shows the insanity of Ireland’s broken and abused immigration system.
Foreign national Mauricio Coutinho Oliveira (36), who required a Portuguese interpreter in court, has had sentencing adjourned TWICE over concerns that a conviction could affect his Irish citizenship application.
The Irish State is delaying justice while his citizenship is imminent. What the hell is going on in this country? 🇮🇪
He pleaded guilty to deception over a fraudulent no-claims bonus certificate, saving €1,388 on his car insurance.
We should be deporting him. Not giving him an Irish passport.
