Norovirus is common, highly infectious, can cause serious and unpleasant illness, closes hospital wards especially over winter and is a risk to care homes.
A norovirus vaccine, if effective, would be a major step forward. Thank you to those taking part in and running this trial
An innovative #norovirus vaccine #ClinicalTrial will open across the UK over the next 2 weeks. Despite being one of the most common and infectious causes of diarrhoea & vomiting, there aren't yet any licensed vaccines anywhere in the world ๐

We are now in our fourth or fifth Covid wave of the year with little time between waves.
I think this is a consequence of return to school & work plus a cold and wet September. The latest subvariant XEC is not yet prevalent enough here to be driving this wave. 1/2
Annual face to face meet up for the cross-site @FrimleyHealth Infection Prevention Team. Getting to know each other better, starting work on our ambitions for the year, and brave Natalie volunteering as our HCID PPE mannequin in 31 deg discomfort๐ฅต

What a great way to acquire life-threatening HUS, whilst also making others sick.

ALT Team USA triathlete Seth Rider speaks about taking part in the triathlon in the River Siene, stating, "We know that there's going to be some E. coli exposure, so I just try to increase my E. coli threshold by exposing myself to a bit of E. coli in your day-to-day life. Just little things throughout your day, like, not washing your hands after you go to the bathroom and stuff like this."

It is a serious health issue.
The misleading suggestion that poor hygiene habits improve resistance to e-coli could adversely affect the health of people reading the post if they take up this suggestion.
Therefore a CN is needed.

The UK will become the first country in the world to roll out a national vaccination programme against Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), protecting infants & older people from becoming seriously ill. RSV accounts for 39,000 hospitalisations each year.

Monday I return from leave, to an NHS under Labour. So expecting as a min:
- Drs to be given their requested pay increase
- GP surgeries employing qualified GPs
- IENs to not have to pay ยฃยฃยฃยฃ to work in this country
- investment in hospital infrastructure that can aide IPC

Pretty sweet way to end the week (despite the England result) @surreycricket

Diarrhoea & vomiting bugs can spread easily โ but simple actions can help to avoid infecting others, including washing your hands regularly with soap and warm water, and avoiding going to work or school, or preparing food for others until 48 hours after your symptoms clear

๐ E.coli update
As of 11 June, we have identified a further 98 cases associated with an ongoing outbreak of a Shiga toxin-producing E.coli (STEC) bringing the total to 211.
We're continuing our epidemiological analysis & whole genome sequencing to identify any further cases.

Love seeing this after my pondering tweet about appearance policies three weeks ago. Nice move to bring the emphasis back on #handhygiene, and apply evidence-based IPC guidance (would have liked to see promotion of sanitiser use for reducing GNB transmission risks thoughโฆ)
