The Tamil Nadu Film Exhibitors Association has submitted a nine-point representation including a hike in ticket cost and to allow 6 am shows. TN govt mulling to address the demands and an announcement on this expected soon.
Key demands placed to CM C Joseph Vijay:
Increase the maximum permissible ticket price from ₹150 to ₹250, excluding taxes and maintenance charges.
Introduce an automatic 10% ticket price hike every two years.
Increase Theatre Maintenance Charges (TMC) from ₹6 to ₹10 per ticket.
Classify eligible cinema theatres as MSME/industrial establishments to avail of lower electricity tariffs.
Abolish the mandatory licensed projector operator requirement for digital projection systems.
Simplify approvals for constructing additional screens within existing theatre compounds.
Extend C-Form cinema licence renewal validity from the existing period to five years.
Permit screening of live sporting events, concerts, cultural programmes and other non-film content that does not require CBFC certification.
Extend permissible theatre operating hours from 9am–2am to 6am–2am, while retaining the maximum of five shows a day.
The association said rising electricity tariffs, property taxes, wages, maintenance costs and competition from OTT platforms had affected theatre operations. It has also sought an appointment with the Information and Publicity Minister to explain its demands.

Let me put it in a way @Akshita_N would understand:
If someone were to make the allegation she is paid by TVK, and she denies the claims, would we ask the accuser for proof or will we ask Akshita to publish her bank statements of the past one year for public scrutiny? Would she not ask "why should I disclose my bank accounts merely because some random person makes an allegation?"
The burden of proof is always on the person making the allegation. Once the accuser dicloses evidence, the burden then shifts on the accused to rebut. That's civilised discourse. Otherwise it's a free-for-all.
