We know how much it matters to live in a country where our rights are protected, where the law applies equally to everyone, and where the majority can’t just decide that some people don’t deserve the same freedoms. The safety and freedom we’ve found in America didn’t happen by accident. They exist because of democracy. And protecting democracy means protecting Jewish safety, too.
We know what happens when those protections start to break down. When courts are weakened, elections are undermined, and people lose equal protection under the law, minorities are often the first to pay the price. Jews have seen this throughout our history. It’s one of the reasons so many of our families sought refuge in democratic countries.
That’s why I find it so alarming to see what’s happening right now. When masked government agents are taking people off the streets and citizens are being shot in public, we should all be worried about where things are headed. As Jews, we know that when a government starts targeting certain groups of people, no one should assume they’re safe from what comes next.
Mike Rogers has chosen to align himself with a movement that is willing to attack our democracy. He stood with Trump and refused to accept the results of the 2020 election. And now we’re seeing what happens when a political movement treats the rights and dignity of certain people as disposable. For Jews, these things should set off alarm bells.
Jewish safety is tied to the health of our democracy. We can’t protect one without protecting the other. And in this Senate race, Abdul is the candidate who understands that and is willing to fight for it.

Seeing as Ted Stevens was the victim of vicious, politically-motivated prosecutorial misconduct, W absolutely should have said that. Instead, a fatuous obsession with media-enforced, but substantively empty, norms - combined with GOP cowardice - led to an injustice.
Better to hand out candy cigs.

How should Christians approach Halloween?
Christians tend to fall into four different camps when it comes to participating in Halloween:
- Total abstinence
- Full participation
- Partial participation
- Redemptive participation
Some abstain from Halloween altogether. Others fully participate in the festivities, while some enjoy the family fun without participating in the glorification of evil.
I believe the better alternative is redemptive participation.
My mom has set this example for me for years. She uses Halloween as an opportunity to share the gospel by attaching Bible verses to candy, making Scripture signs for her front lawn, and sharing the love of Jesus with the families who come to her door.
As she says, “What other time of year do you have people coming to your home and asking you for something? This is like the easiest evangelism opportunity possible.”
A night associated with darkness can actually be an opportunity to shine the light of Christ.

This is the finest piece I have ever written for @NRO. It has nothing to do with politics whatsoever. Instead it is a tribute to the indescribable power of the written word - to move, and to command the conscience.

Nothing says family dinner like trying to get more followers on TikTok and monetizing your kids.
Some parents are ditching plates and silverware for a “dump dinner,” pouring the meal straight onto a foil-covered table and letting the kids dig in. For these families, it’s less about manners and more about making memories.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The "dump dinner" is a viral social media trend of staged videos primarily for engagement, not a common family practice. Children in videos often react with alarm rather than requesting it.

Just pursuing “generational wealth.”
I have read the charging document alleging a series of criminal acts by a member of the Virginia Senate. In our American system of justice, people are presumed innocent until proven guilty, and that is true for Senator L. Louise Lucas. She and her family deserve the opportunity to present their defense and speak to the allegations presented.
The timing of this indictment undermines the U.S. Department of Justice’s previously longstanding policy of not taking legal actions — to include indictments or significant investigative steps — close to an election and sadly, this timing further erodes the trust the American people deserve to have in the Department of Justice.
Did she read the document?

Would be great to see the GOP stand up against this and on behalf of adjuncts.
Big part of this story is reducing full-time faculty and replacing with poorly paid adjuncts, who have no benefits or hope for tenure, so the college can pay another assistant dean.
Everything about this is goofy.
The gaslighting is something.

It’s beautiful.
Yes.
But it also makes a substantive political philosophical point….a big part of our political angst can be attributed to policy choices over generations that very small minorities ever would have supported. And then the results are treated as irreversible by the ruling class.
This really is just bad theology.
There is plenty to fear in this world. Horror is real.
Christians do not deny that. They accept it. And they understand that it doesn't have to be the last word.
