9 years ago today, Wrexham lost one of its most celebrated sons.
You didn’t have to actually know him to know of him.
As the beautiful and poignant @fearlessidzine tribute below from that sad day reads:
“The Racecourse was his church. Those were his songs of praise. Wrexham AFC was his religion.”
Jacko - there’ll never be another like him again🖤
Tribute to Jacko. Tough one to write. medium.com/@fearlessid/jacko…

40 years ago, @Wrexham_AFC were the only team from the English leagues to feature in European competition.
Oct 1st 1986, #afcWrexham 4-0 Żurrieq (Malta) — in front of just 2,793 at the Racecourse.
Scorers were S. Massey (2), J. Steel, and one Barry Horne, who scored one of the most famous goals in Everton history, helping to keep them up in 94.
Wrexham progressed 7-0 on agg. In the next round, they put up a fine effort against a very good Zaragoza side.

Wrexham 1-2 Blackburn Rovers
19 years ago today, we hosted Blackburn in a pre-season friendly at The Racecourse.
Robbie Savage scored a penalty in his home town.
Just look at how good that Rovers squad was back then, and they would also add Roque Santa Cruz later that month!
Blackburn would go on to finish 7th in the Prem that season, and we got relegated to non-league for the first time in our history.
