My note: Prosecutors were unable to persuade Mr. Reaves’ jury to unanimously vote for death. He never should have been on death row, let alone executed.
14 of the 18 men Florida has executed this year were sentenced to death despite non-unanimous votes by the sentencing jury. That’s 78% of the state’s executions. Florida is not only an extreme outlier in the number of people it executes, it is an extreme outlier in how the people it executes got to death row in the first place.

⚠️ IHRNGO warns of execution risk for over 200 Ghezelhesar prisoners amid transfer plans
Authorities have told drug death-row prisoners in Unit 2 of Ghezelhesar Prison that those from provincial towns and cities must be transferred to their home jurisdictions. More than 200 prisoners with final death sentences could be affected, according to information obtained by Iran Human Rights.
IHRNGO condemns the planned transfers as an apparent effort to weaken the prisoners’ collective resistance and enable executions with less public scrutiny. Director Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam warns that dispersing them could lead to another wave of executions and urges immediate international action, particularly from the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Prisoners’ collective action in October 2025 and July 2026 secured temporary suspensions of drug-related executions. A source told IHRNGO that access to mobile phones and outside media at Ghezelhesar helps prisoners publicise developments; dispersal to provincial prisons could make this harder.
The transfers have been announced; the report does not confirm that they have taken place.

On Saturday Saudi Arabia’s authorities executed Hassan Zaki al-Faraj for alleged offences dating back to when he was a child.
His execution heightens fears for other child offenders, including Youssef al-Manasef, whose death sentence was recently upheld.

Today, the vast majority of countries worldwide have either abolished the death penalty or introduced a moratorium on its use.
