7 takeaways and 6 words for Week 1 of the new-look 76ers: 1. They tend to look like two different teams in the first half and the second half. You don’t at all want this to be a constant trend/habit, however it’s certainly nice to know that this is a resilient team that can turn it on in a real way when it matters. 2. VJ Edgecombe excelling in his role is going to do wonders for the squad. He’s a supernova for this basketball team, and there’s a clear void in activity, energy, POA defense, rebounding, and hustle when he’s not playing, as we saw tonight. 3. Aside from tonight, the 76ers defense has been why they’re 3-1 thus far on the season. That side of the ball being ahead of the offense this early in the season is an amazing sign of things to come, as we can pretty comfortably infer that the offense will end up being near the top of league. 4. LeBron as a Swiss Army knife has already paid huge dividends. His ability to surgically be able to pick his spots on both ends allows him to put together great burst sequences that shift games, as we’ve seen in the Knicks, Cavs, and even Pistons game tonight, albeit ending in a loss. 5. The rebounding and backup big situation will remain a real concern until it’s rectified. I’m interested to see how much of a factor Barlow/Walker can be in closing the consistent rebound-deficit gap, but ultimately I still have real questions about Bona and even Fall as your best reserves at that position. 6. Maxey becoming a defensive standout is really intriguing. He has 12 stocks in 4 games. His ability and willingness to guard 94 feet has really disrupted opposing offenses. Along with that, he’s used his speed well during screen navigation and jumping passing lanes, as well as making extra efforts on the break. 7. KCP has looked like a guy who’s aging backwards. Are we getting LA or Denver KCP? I understand that playing on teams like Orlando and Memphis won’t exactly bring out the best in you, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised to see him playing with a real defensive burst. It doesn’t hurt that he’s also shooting 47% from three. He’s also only 33. I’M SO EXCITED FOR THIS SEASON! šŸ””

Sixers need Dominick Barlow to get back. Badly.

Well, the 76ers’ 82-0 dream undefeated season is over. They’ll have to settle for 81-1.

Feels like Bona can’t grab a basketball if you hand it right to him. Fascinating.

There’s just way too much 1-on-1 iso right now for Philadelphia. Looks too much like your-turn-my-turn. They need ball and body movement to break down this Pistons defense. Detroit would gladly trust their defense playing things straight up — that’s one of their biggest strengths.

And now KCP is headed to the locker room. Man, this stuff just keeps piling up.

Prayers to Jalen Williams. That’s just awful. As always, I wish we can just turn injuries off in sports. Brutal blow for a guy who just finally got back healthy.

LeBron has had his fingerprints on 16 of the last 18 PTS for the 76ers. During this run, he’s scored 10 PTS and found Wade and Brown for triples. Philly is stunningly within 5. LeBron is up to 13 PTS and 4 AST.

A LeBron flurry to end the 2nd half gives the 76ers some life. He was responsible for the last 9 PTS of the quarter as he assisted Wade for a triple and scored three buckets at the rim. Philly cut the Pistons lead to 12. Despite how bad the first half was, they’re somehow in striking distance.

Everything has been hard for the Sixers in this first half. Every LeBron FGA feels like it’s just in-and-out. Pistons are up 18 and it seems like they should be up 30. Philly can’t get anything going offensively and they haven’t been able to string together many stops.

Great activity here from Bona. He’s been a bit more under control and calculated on both ends. Tonight more than ever, the Sixers really need him to rebound the basketball, stay out of foul trouble, and protect the paint.

LeBron’s just not in rhythm yet with his shooting stroke. Pistons are predictably dominating the boards and really pushing the pace. Sixers offense is stalled as a lot of these guys have yet to play together.

12-1 blitz by Detroit. They’re already winning the rebounding battle 7-0. Was a real fear.

LeBron wins the jump-ball at center court. Great start for the center.

No Duren or Ausar for Detroit. But, don’t be fooled — Paul Reed and Javonte are more than formidable. I foresee a tough game tonight.

Better backup center: Adem Bona or Kevon Looney?

Maybe this is why I don’t have a girl. LeBron is THAT important.

I'm exactly like that too lmao. I feel bad for my girl when she's around me watching the game 😭😭😭

Over the years, I’ve come to realize that I’m probably the worst person to watch a LeBron game with. I’m so locked in, and I treat every possession like it’s life or death. I need silence. I wouldn’t want it any other way. Anyone relate?
