As I formally transition over BNSF, please join me in welcoming Interim Police Chief Kenneth Myers. Chief Myers will temporarily serve the @WSPDTX and @WESTCOMMTX department through January 2027 while a permanent search for the next police chief is being conducted by an executive search firm and our Human Resources department. "Please join us in welcoming Ken into this new role to assist our police department during this transition," said City Manager Jeffrey J. James. "We are conducting an executive search with the desire to name a permanent chief by the end of the year for a start date in January 2027." Myers retired in August 2025 after 25 years with the Allen Police Department. He also served as an interim police chief with the City of Prosper which concluded recently. Myers holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in criminal justice and criminology from the University of Texas at Arlington. He has extensive training and certifications. He looks forward to meeting community members while serving in this temporary role.

Thank you to Capt. Beau Hufstetler and the leadership team at NAS JRB Fort Worth for the invitation to attend Quarters today. I am grateful for the partnership and teamwork between the base, U.S. Navy Police, NCIS, and our police team. It was especially meaningful to have the U.S. Navy Police Team sharing the stage as they do incredible work protecting our military base and its personnel. Shout out to SECO ENS Director Christina Hurley, Deputy Security Director Jose "Al" Pacheco, and NCIS SSA Craig Shattuck along with Public Affairs Officer Sandy Owens for the amazing partnership and collaboration over the years. As I transition to my new role as Special Agent in Charge with the BNSF Railway Police Department, I was honored to receive this plaque and letter of appreciation. It was inspiring to watch this leadership team take care of their people while recognizing outstanding Sailors and civilians for their dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence. This plaque will proudly hang in my new SAC office at BNSF Police. Fair Winds and Following Seas.

At our City Council meeting this week, the Honorable Rep. John McQueeney in District 97 recognized @WSPDTX Sergeant John Banner on his achievement from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement in Austin last month related to extraordinary service to our community. Mayor Faron Young also provided a proclamation recognizing my upcoming retirement and service to our community along with Rep. McQueeney and the City Council. As my last Council meeting, I want to thank our Council for their continued support over the past five years. Public safety requires commitment from elected leaders to achieve success.

Thank you Stephanie Lowe, editor for the FBI Law Enforcement Team, for featuring our team in this month's bulletin. We love to give kudos to our dedicated and committed @WSPDTX team members that go above and beyond in the performance of their duties. Shout out to Sergeant John Banner, Officer Christopher Wiseman, and Officer Brian Leal! These three teammates are some of the best in the business! leb.fbi.gov/ Late one spring night, amid torrential rains that resulted in flash flooding, officers from the White Settlement, Texas, Police Department (WSPD) were strategically positioned throughout the city to respond to storm damages and emergencies. While monitoring the streets, Sergeant John Banner saw a passenger car become stranded halfway into a conduit designed to channel stormwater runoff. Three small children had escaped and stood outside of the vehicle in the pouring rain. After securing them in the rear seat of his patrol car, Sergeant Banner spoke to their mother. She had attempted to leave the vehicle but was trapped against it, unable to make it to higher ground and in danger of being swept away by the floodwaters. Sergeant Banner immediately called for emergency backup. Officers Christopher Wiseman and Brian Leal quickly arrived on scene. Sergeant Banner swiftly developed a plan and asked for something to secure the woman in case she lost her footing or the vehicle was dislodged and swept down the channel. Officer Wiseman ran to his patrol car and grabbed a pair of jumper cables, the only available item that could work. Sergeant Banner instructed the mother to wind the jumper cables under her arms and around her chest, while the three officers held the other end in case she slipped into the fast-moving water. The officers’ quick actions and ingenuity provided the woman with extra security until the local fire department arrived and pulled the vehicle from the rushing water. She was safely rescued and reunited with her children. After a comprehensive review of this incident, WSPD Chief Christopher Cook ordered that every patrol car be outfitted with a water rescue throw bag to prepare officers for future flooding emergencies.

Our @wspdtx team was represented at Camp El Tesoro De La Vida during their First Responders Night. With a dozen law enforcement agencies represented, it was a great evening connecting with kids, teens, and families. Special thanks to Forrest Schmidt, son-in-law for WSPD Captain George "Scott" Monier, for letting me know about this unique opportunity to represent our WSPD family and the legacy of Captain Monier. Corporal Jonathan Russell attended to represent our team. The camp provides services as a grief recovery camp for kids aged 7-17 who have lost a loved one

Important Message: After careful and thoughtful consideration, I have decided to retire as Chief of Police / Director of Public Safety for the City of White Settlement, effective August 31, 2026. It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve the community where I was born and raised. I am incredibly proud of what our @WSPDTX team has accomplished over the past four and a half years — including a 31% overall reduction in crime since 2021, revitalizing and launching new community engagement initiatives, and elevating public trust through a strong commitment to strategic communication. Because of this progress, our department is well positioned to continue serving with excellence. I am grateful for the support of our residents, businesses, city leadership, City Manager Jeffrey James, our Mayor and City Council, and the men and women of WSPD. My family and I will continue living in White Settlement and look forward to remaining active in the community we love. As for the next chapter, I have accepted an executive leadership position with a large law enforcement agency in North Texas. I will work with the City Manager’s Office to ensure a smooth and orderly transition of responsibilities in the coming weeks. Thank you for the trust you have placed in me. Thank you for supporting my family. It has been an honor and privilege to serve you. — Chief Christopher Cook
