My thoughts on Alberta’s referendum results…?

The deadly incident at the Canadian Forces Base in Wainwright is a terrible tragedy. My heart goes out to the families who have lost loved ones, those who were injured and everyone affected. We know there are families waiting for news about their loved ones, and our thoughts are with them too. I have been in touch with Premier Smith and federal Defence Minister McGuinty to offer assistance and our sympathies. Manitoba stands ready to help in any way we can. I also want to thank the first responders and everyone who stepped up to help during such a difficult time. We will also lower flags to half-mast to honour the lives lost.

Very sorry to hear about the loss of life and the injuries at CFB Wainwright. Sending all of our support to CAF members, Alberta, and the first responders on the scene.

Today marks three years since the terror attacks by Hamas against the people of Israel that killed over 1200, injured thousands and led to hundreds being taken hostage. We remember the innocent victims whose lives were taken, the families who endured unimaginable suffering, and offer our condolences to the survivors.   Since that time we have seen a significant rise in antisemitism around the world and sadly here at Manitoba. As a government we are committed to standing with the Jewish community in Manitoba and commit to fighting this type of hatred wherever it rears its head. We must defend the human rights of all peoples everywhere and our Government has taken strong action over our time in office, supporting law enforcement, education, and community infrastructure while strongly condemning acts of hate.   We must also recognize the terrible devastation and suffering of Palestinians over the past three years in Gaza and the West Bank. Our Government has called for peace and security for all Israelis and Palestinians during that time and we will recommit to support those efforts today.

100 new community care spaces means the right care sooner, while opening up hospital beds for those who need them. That’s how we’re fixing health care, is by working together.

Here are the graves. This Orange Shirt Day we are returning the Brandon Indian Residential School cemetery grounds to the Sioux Valley Dakota Nation on behalf of many First Nations whose children are buried here. This is one of the most well documented burial grounds at a residential school in Canada with not only church and historical records but also contemporaneous newspaper articles describing what happened to these children.
