Two days, real cases, and plenty of decisions made in the room.
On 4–5 November, we hosted the AML Certification Centre’s workshop on money laundering, fraud and targeted financial sanctions at our Golden Gate office in Tallinn. Compliance and fraud specialists from banks, payment firms and law enforcement spent the time working through the calls they make every day, from a first alert to a defensible report.
Panels put borderline cases to the room, with participants voting on each one before the experts gave their view. Day two turned to fraud and to preparing for the EU’s AML Regulation, which applies from 2027.
Thank you to the AML Certification Centre for organising it, to the speakers from Iute Group, LHV Bank, Lex Law Office, Citadele, Bybit and beyond, and to everyone who joined us. Several Wallester colleagues took part too.

“Cut corners at your peril.”
That’s Julian Brand, CEO of Wallester UK, on what it takes to build a payments business that lasts.
Across Europe, the rules for embedded finance are converging, and one licence can now cover a whole region. That opens the market to more providers, and it leaves every one of them facing the same question: why would a client choose you?
Our answer is compliance that holds up under scrutiny, combined with the speed to get a client live. Julian puts it this way: “Tech is often similar now; partnership and execution are the real differentiators.”
In our latest article, he explains why compliance and speed belong together, and what regulators look for when deciding whom to trust.

Every recurring support ticket is a design brief.
That's how Andrey Davidovich, Wallester's Head of Design, thinks about complexity. Regulation, card scheme rules, legacy banking rails: you can't delete any of it. But you can decide where it lives, so the person using the product never has to see it.
Andrey has spent fifteen years in design, at Accenture, Revolut and Gcore, where he grew a team from three people to fifteen. At Wallester, he built Wally, the design system that now runs across our entire card-issuing platform.
In our interview, he talks about why so many fintech apps now look the same, why an ops manager freezing 100 cards doesn't want charm, and what design leadership means when a small team can ship what used to take a large one.
His view on AI is refreshingly honest: it makes options cheap, but choosing the right one is still the job.

How are businesses in France and Germany spending on AI? We checked the pulse.
Most estimates of business AI use come from surveys, which record what executives say. We wanted to see what companies pay for. So we analysed card payments to AI tools across Wallester Business accounts in the EU's two largest economies, from January to September.
Here's what we found:
• Monthly card spend on AI tools grew almost sevenfold.
• Anthropic took almost a third of all AI card spend, nearly three times OpenAI's share.
• Cursor, the AI code editor, reached 10.6% of spend, up from almost nothing in January.
• Video and voice tools account for almost a fifth of spend.

46,000+ attendees from 180+ countries, all under one roof at ExCeL.
From 3 to 5 November, Karine Martinez will be at World Travel Market London, the global marketplace where travel companies meet their partners and suppliers.
Every flight, hotel stay and supplier invoice ends in a payment, often across borders and currencies. That’s the kind of challenge Wallester works on every day, so three days with 4,000+ exhibitors and 5,500+ buyers is time well spent.
At WTM this week? Send Karine a message and meet her at ExCeL.
The hot dogs were the least scary thing at the Wallester office this week. 🎃
Our monthly food day turned into a Halloween party: hot dogs for lunch, a table of Halloween sweets, and offices full of colleagues who went all out with their costumes.
And of course, there was a contest. Congratulations to our winners:
1st place: Sergei Ivanov
2nd place: Jekaterina Romanova
3rd place: Nikita Lysenko
and the whole Operations team
Thank you to everyone who dressed up, and to our Events team for bringing the day to life, or back from the dead.💀
Follow @Wallester_com to see what our next food day turns into.
One week to go.
On 4–5 November, the AML Certification Centre runs its two-day workshop on AML, fraud and targeted financial sanctions at our Golden Gate office in Tallinn. The programme is set, the speakers are confirmed, and the last places are still open.
Here’s what’s coming up:
• Day one covers money laundering and sanctions, with talks in the morning and hands-on exercises in the afternoon that take an alert all the way to an asset freeze and a defensible report.
• Day two turns to fraud, seen from both the bank’s side and the police’s, and closes with a cross-border case lab that brings both days together.
• Speakers come from LHV Bank, Citadele, Iute Group, Bybit and Estonia’s Police and Border Guard Board, among others.
• Lunch and an evening reception are included, and participants leave with a certificate.

How do you build a department when you’re its first hire?
Anna Artemova will answer that at our Tallinn office on 19 November.
Anna joined Wallester in 2024 as an Affiliate Manager and was soon asked to build a Marketing Affiliates department from scratch. That team later merged with part of our Product team to become Growth Marketing, which she now leads as Head of Growth Marketing, with people working across different offices and countries.
Anna’ll share what that took at Leader to Leader, an event by the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KODA). Her talk covers building a team from zero, keeping people motivated as it grows, and managing a team that doesn’t sit in one place.
A Q&A follows, with warm drinks and light refreshments.

Embedded finance revenue is forecast to reach $617bn by 2031, according to Juniper Research. The more telling number sits underneath: B2B is set to grow by 390%, well ahead of the market overall.
Consumer embedded finance is already part of everyday life. In B2B, a company’s finances are still spread across separate systems, and that unfinished work is where the growth is.
In our latest article, we look at why B2B has moved more slowly and which platforms are best placed to lead, with insights from Karine Martinez, our Head of Strategic Partnerships.
“For businesses, convenience alone is not enough. Embedded finance needs to solve a real problem and deliver measurable value.”

Turning strong engineers into strong managers is one of the trickiest moves in tech. Jakov Friedman spends a lot of his time doing exactly that.
Jakov is our Head of Product Engineering. He runs five teams and around 30 engineers. He joined Wallester in 2025 as a team lead and stepped up to the new role in early 2026. He has spent more than twenty years in IT and close to a decade leading agile transformations across telecom, security software, and fintech.
We talked to him about what the job actually involves. How you lead when you can no longer be close to every detail. Why predictable delivery matters more than fast delivery. What's different about building for a company whose cards people rely on to run their businesses.
And here's his advice for a first leadership role, which is simpler than most: spend time listening, and don't pretend to have every answer.

Julian Brand treats compliance like the foundations of a house.
The CEO of Wallester UK was the latest guest on BOLD Talks, sitting down with Epi Ludvik of BOLD Awards to talk about how a career in law shapes the way he runs a fintech. In his words, without a secure foundation, "the house is just frankly going to fall down."
He also explains the "shiny new" trap founders fall into when they want to issue their own cards, and why Wallester grows one step at a time instead of chasing scale.
His answer to what "bold" means came from an unexpected place: a rugby pitch.

On 4–5 November, we’re glad to be opening our Tallinn office for a two-day training on financial crime. The programme is run by the AML Certification Centre, and we want to introduce them.
They train the compliance professionals who protect banks, payment firms and crypto platforms from financial crime. Founded in Tallinn in 2023, they’ve already certified more than 5,000 people across 79 countries. Their courses are written and marked by compliance experts who do the work themselves, and built around real cases rather than theory.
Over two days at Golden Gate, a strong lineup of speakers from across banking and payments will cover how money laundering and fraud show up day-to-day, and how teams can prepare for the EU’s new anti-money-laundering rules in 2027. For anyone working in compliance, fraud or risk, it should be two days well spent.

3,500+ HR and reward professionals, two days, one Wallester badge. Karine Martinez is heading to Employee Benefits Live.
On 13–14 October, Karine Martinez will be at ExCeL London for Europe’s largest reward and benefits event. One of its four stages this year is called “Better Benefits, Smarter Spend”, and that’s the conversation she’s going for.
Wallester builds payment cards and spend controls, so how companies fund, manage and track employee benefits sits close to our work. Two days with the people who design those programmes is the quickest way to hear what they need next.
Attending too? Send Karine a message and meet her at ExCeL.
When Transferra set out to launch a corporate card programme, they faced a dilemma: build their own infrastructure or go with a white-label solution.
That decision was at the centre of the webinar we hosted yesterday, How EMIs Scale Corporate Card Programmes With White-Label Infrastructure. Alexey Reshko, COO of the FCA-authorised EMI Transferra, walked us through the build-versus-buy decision, four years after choosing the white-label route, with no regrets.
Alongside him, our own Karine Martinez, Head of Strategic Partnerships, discussed what EMIs are really buying when they opt for a card programme, while Georgi Prelovski, Senior Client Implementation Manager, shared what the first weeks of implementation look like in practice. Angelina Prokopenko did a great job hosting the session.
The full recording and a written recap are now available on our blog. It’s well worth a look if you’re exploring how to scale your corporate card programme and expand your offering.

Some conversations are much faster to solve across a table than across an inbox.
We recently hosted Vita Oļehnoviča from Visa at the Wallester office for another of our regular operations check-ins.
We reviewed our card programmes’ performance, aligned on key priorities, and mapped out next steps for continuous improvement and upcoming operational goals.
Sitting in the same room always makes these sessions even more productive. Looking forward to the next one!
Thank you for joining us, Vita Oļehnoviča.
Only one day to go. Have you registered for our webinar yet?
When clients operate across multiple entities, currencies and markets, every new requirement can create another operational, technical or compliance challenge.
On 8 October, Wallester and Transferra will bring together three perspectives on how EMIs and fintechs can build and scale corporate card programmes with white-label infrastructure.
Business: Alexey Reshko, COO at Transferra, will share what Transferra has learned from supporting more than 1,000 registered clients and cross-border payments in over 40 currencies.
Strategy: Karine Martinez, Head of Strategic Partnerships at Wallester, will explain BIN sponsorship, the commercial case for white-label issuing and the decisions that can affect time to market.
Implementation: Georgi Prelovski, Senior Implementation Manager at Wallester, will cover API integration, corporate controls and multi-currency workflows.
Moderated by Angelina Prokopenko.
You’ll get practical insight into the decisions to make before implementation begins, plus a checklist you can use to assess your own card programme requirements.

Why are EMIs building corporate card programmes now?
Corporate cards work on different economics from consumer cards: higher spend per card and interchange that reflects the servicing a business client needs. That's why complex corporate clients are worth winning.
Serving them is the harder part: multi-entity structures, several currencies, controls per entity and per employee.
Join our webinar on 8 October for three perspectives on how it's done:
Karine Martinez, Head of Strategic Partnerships at Wallester, takes the business case — when white-label issuing makes commercial sense, what BIN sponsorship involves, and what shapes time to market.
Alexey Reshko, COO at Transferra, shares how they scaled their own programme on that model while serving complex global businesses.
Georgi Prelovski, Senior Implementation Manager at Wallester, goes into the implementation – API integration, custom corporate controls and multi-currency workflows.
Bring your own questions for the live Q&A, and get our card programme readiness checklist after the session.
