A thread 🧵of various YouTube bits and bobs that I've found interesting, hopefully to be added to indefinitely (if no doubt erratically).

This stuff British climate efforts into a rather awkward context. Britain could ban car travel and go back to an agrarian existence where nobody goes more than a few miles of their home town and in two or three years China would have added the equivalent to the global total.
Pretty much all the growth in global coal use since the late 1980s has come from China.

(this is actually relatively good news compared to a few years ago - a little bit back China was adding the equivalent of the entire British motor vehicle stock *every year*. It's flattened out a bit now.)

It’s hard to credit that this sort of behaviour was going on in the NHS.
Breaking: An independent KC has concluded files containing bereavement and medical examiners records @nottmhospitals between 2019 and 2022 were “methodically and selectively deleted and that the deletion was intentional rather than accidental.”

Russell Brand's behaviour is often explained as a product of the culture in which he rose to fame. But that lets rather too many of the people who indulged and promoted him off the hook. I've revisited my 2023 essay in light of his conviction.

Apparently I have reached the stage of life where men considerably younger than me are being dismissed as too old to play Bond.

Pattinson would easily be the best option out of these guys. He's a fine actor, he's good-looking in the right way, and he has that undercurrent of masculine threat.
The 5 finalists that have tested for the role of James Bond: • Robert Pattinson • Jack Lowden • Callum Turner • Nicholas Hoult • Josh O'Connor Who would you choose?

Idly watched a YouTube video involving a visit to a semi-rural bit of Japan and they visited a massive school and as recently as 15 years ago it had hundreds of pupils and now it had 29. Rather brings home the direction of travel, and in such a short time.

Far too much of the established left were crank adjacent and tumescent at anything that smacked of ‘revolution’. Because of romance and vanity and idiocy. And it got, and gets, endless free passes.

Jenrick's desire to meddle in Poundland is managed decline mentality. A strong economy doesn't worry about a mediocre discount store going under because workers have the protection of rapid alternative employment.
