So pleased to join Oasis Waterloo Community Hub and see the brilliant work they do to support local people. During this difficult time, more and more people need these warm spaces, advice centres, food and clothes banks and community cafes. Thank you for all you do.

🧵 We live in one of the wealthiest countries in the world, and yet people in the UK are going without the essentials we all need to get by. We can’t always deal with what life throws at us on our own, and we need a system in place that supports us all. ⤵️

Nobody should dread getting their period because they don’t have enough money left over after buying food to buy tampons and pads. Yet for many women, this is their monthly reality. Essentials are not things we can cut back on, they’re the things we all need to survive. 💚
Photo shows boxes of tampons in a crate at a food bank, ready to be given out. A quote sits on top of the photo, which reads: "We're seeing people having to make difficult decisions. they have to calculate whether they have enough money to feed their family, or to buy household and sanitary items." Quote by Tamryn at Hammersmith and Fulham Foodbank

🧵 Last weekend, the food banks in our network asked their local communities to stand with us in calling for a stronger social security system ⤵️ #CostOfLivingCrisis

Sadly this is becoming an all too often request and one that feels so wrong. Help us and foodbanks across UK campaign for change so people can afford dot cook, heat their homes and eat.

We should be able to afford to cook our food. We need a stronger social security system that provides security every day, not just in times of national crisis. Please add your voice and urge your MP to go further to help people on the lowest incomes 👉bit.ly/3PbCPPX

The Lambeth foodbanks @WaterlooFB @VauxhallFB @cpfoodbank @BrixtonFoodbank are grateful to @helenhayes_ and other local MPs for raising concerns we have for those placed in hotels and the increasing desperation we are seeing for those residing there often for many months.

What a dream team of people today, packing over 2000 meals for the vulnerable and homeless in our community in @Waterloo_Labour. Sad it’s needed but @ibrahim_Dogus and @ParkPlazaHotels are incredibly generous to organise this!

We're urging the Chancellor to do what’s right and reinstate the £20 a week to #UniversalCredit at next week’s autumn budget. Caroline, a participant in @CovidRealities, has written a blog on what the devastating cut means for her family. #KeepTheLifeline covidrealities.org/blog/why-…

It's Harvest Season, but times feel lean for many of us. If you can spare another few quid on your weekly shop, a donation to @WaterlooFB would make a huge difference to those who are struggling. bit.ly/2A1OM9N #CharityTuesday

It’s disappointing that today’s attempts to force a vote on the £20 cut to #UniversalCredit due for October have been unsuccessful. But it’s not too late for the government to #KeepTheLifeline It will never be right that people don’t have enough to afford the basics.

BREAKING: There will NOT be a showdown vote on Universal Credit tonight - because Iain Duncan Smith's amendment has not been selected by the Speaker
