Caller: Dave, I’m 69, and my 79 year old husband has secretly gambled away over $1 million of our savings. We used to have more than $1 million, but now we have just $15,000 left. He makes $350,000 a year as a pharmacist, yet he insists he can control his sports betting.
Dave: He gambled away a million dollars, and he still thinks he has it under control?
Caller: He says he can limit himself to $700 or $800 a month. He doesn’t seem to understand how serious this is.
Dave: That’s not control. That’s denial. You don’t lose a million dollars gambling and fix the problem by promising to lose less next month.
Caller: I love him, but I’m terrified we’ll lose everything. We’re almost 70, and I don’t know how to get through to him.
Dave: He needs professional addiction treatment immediately. You need to protect whatever money you have left, and he needs to stop gambling completely.
Caller: What if he refuses to get help?
Dave: Then you have to be prepared to leave. You cannot save someone from an addiction when they refuse to admit they have a problem. And you cannot sacrifice your entire financial future trying.
Caller: So I have to choose between my marriage and protecting myself?
Dave: He’s the one making that choice every time he gambles. You’re not responsible for his addiction, and you don’t have to let it destroy the rest of your life.

Glen Powell says he puked inside a Navy jet while filming Top Gun, only for the pilot to flip the plane upside down and send his vomit flying straight back into his face
“I didn't want to embarrass myself in front of this naval aviator. These guys are tough, they're cool. I'm the actor in the back of the plane.”
“As I'm violently puking in this bag, I hear him say, ‘Well, buddy, if you're ready to rock and roll, let's rock and roll.’ Then he inverts the plane.”
“I'm looking at the ground, and the puke that I just puked is being puked back into my face.”
“I don't think we're going to make a sequel because of this reason. It's probably just me.”

Glenn Powell says Tom Cruise pushed him to skydive solo, and when he couldn't find his parachute tab mid freefall, he thought Tom had just killed him.
“Tom hit me up a couple weeks later and was like, ‘Hey man, like, what are you scared?’”
“Tom's only request was that I couldn't go skydiving with another person. I had to go solo the first time.”
“My first thought was like, ‘Oh, Tom just killed me.’”
“I'm looking for the tab and I'm like, ‘You're not Tom Cruise. You'll never be Tom Cruise. Why did you do this?’”
“I finally pulled it. It was way below altitude. Came in hot. Made it. Went back up, did it again.”

Miles Teller says he broke out in hives after a flight while filming Top Gun: Maverick, and was shocked to discover he had flame retardant, pesticides, and jet fuel in his blood. Tom Cruise’s response was priceless.
“I landed, we got done, and I was like, ‘Man, I’m not feeling too good.’ I was really hot, and I just started itching like crazy. I get out of the jet, and I’m covered in hives. Like, head to toe.”
“My blood work comes back and I have flame retardant, pesticides, and jet fuel in my blood.”
“I told Tom, ‘Well, Tom, it turns out I have jet fuel in my blood.’ Without even skipping a beat, Tom just goes, ‘Yeah, I was born with it, kid.’”
“I thought, wait a second, this is actually kind of cool. And it was ,there’s your Top Gun. That was a very Tom moment for me.”

Caller: Dave, my wife graduates dental school in May. We owe $750,000 in student loans, plus I have another $40,000 in consumer debt. Where do we even start?
Dave: You two don't understand how bad this is yet. Her debt is double what it should have been for that degree.
Caller: We were told dentists make good money and can handle it.
Dave: That's the trap. Dentists carry this stuff for 20 years and call it normal. It's not normal. It's a mess you made, and you have to own that.
Caller: Okay. So what do we do?
Dave: You live like absolute poor people. Rice, beans, no vacations, no new anything.
Caller: How long are we talking?
Dave: You're about to make $300,000 to $400,000 a year combined. Live like this and throw everything at the debt, and you can be done in about three years.
Caller: And if we don't?
Dave: Then you're paying on this until your kids are in college. Three years of misery, or twenty years of payments.

Caller: “I’m 65. I have a $300,000 paid off house, $70,000 in savings, and I’m working as a receptionist making $1,600 a month.”
Dave Ramsey: “Keep $20,000 as your emergency fund and invest the other $50,000.”
Dave Ramsey: “You could sell your house, buy a $150,000 condo, and invest the remaining $150,000 for your retirement.”
Caller: “But isn’t it too late for me to start over?”
Dave Ramsey: “You used to be a medical lab technician. Why are you settling for a receptionist job? Go back and use the skills you already have.”
Dave Ramsey: “And never let your spouse make major financial decisions without full transparency. Day trading is not a retirement plan.”

A little girl asked her father why they never went on vacation like her classmates.
He told her they were saving money for something special.
The truth was much harder.
Her father had been working overtime for months, but after rent, groceries, transportation, and debt payments, there was barely anything left.
He had started eating lunch at work only when someone brought extra food.
His wife thought he was skipping meals to lose weight.
He didn't correct her.
One evening, he showed me his bank balance.
$41.27.
He smiled and said, “As long as my kids don't feel like we're struggling, I'll figure something out.”
But how long can a person keep pretending everything is fine when the numbers say otherwise?
Some parents aren't trying to give their children a luxurious life.
They're just trying to make sure their children never feel how scared they are.
How many families look financially stable from the outside but are barely holding things together behind closed doors?
