Irish Examiner inadvertently burying the lede here: “It could also be that people are slightly more vulnerable post-Covid because there is a post-Covid elevated risk of heart disease for example, so that could be contributing to it as well.”
Mindboggling that this isn't on every front page. Irish deaths over Dec-Jan period just gone are *40%* higher than same period, pre-COVID. No room in mortuaries. Government can spin the 'dying from/with Covid', but can't spin huge increase in total deaths. irishexaminer.com/news/arid-…

Humm, one of those radio interviews this morning when I didn't get to say everything I wanted to 😞 So here's what I planned to say. As WHO are saying, the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic isn't over. We need to expect multiple waves of infection each year.

BREAKING: High Court has ruled that the government broke the law by failing to protect care home residents from Covid-19 during the pandemic. The govt claimed it had put a 'protective ring' around them. The High Court has decided it failed. Huge moment for families of victims.

For @DonnellyStephen & @davidcullinane: The final NPHET letter did not discourage masks, it strongly suggested they be retained. Masking would help mitigate the current surge. As would more testing, investment in air hygiene, & working at home. It's *not* lockdown or nothing.
SF Heath Spokesperson @davidcullinane said he’s worried about what’s happening in hospitals but public health advice has to be trusted. He said the Health Minister told him last night that the only way to tackle the latest surge would be a full lockdown and this is not justified

"living with the virus" as a way to "normal" is not working. Businesses should recognize that investing in elimination is the exit strategy. Is this it? More than half of workers still not returning to office, according to gauge marketwatch.com/story/is-thi…

🇮🇪Ireland A LOT of people notifying on twitter that having avoided it all along they or a member of their family now have Covid-19 for the first time. Pretending Covid is gone and it’s now okay to discard masks in essential settings is not working. #CovidIsNotOver #LongCovid

I just spoke to a medical consultant dealing with surge of Covid +ve patients for the past 24 hours. He was so devastated the way #NPHET devalued #Masks yesterday & abandoned healthcare workers in the middle of staffing crisis.
