I did it. I've finished the movies I wanted to watch for the 1940's and here's the top 25 films from that decade. I struggle ranking things so it's kind of a loose ranking. All but the last film got 5/5 score from me and the last one got 4.5/5 so these are all great and I recommend them all! Let me know what you think and which you've seen! Letterboxd link to the list in the comments.

I think BioWare went out of business because their entire customer base got AIDS and died after sitting through this scene

Ok, to put my two cents into this recent horror movie debate amongst Christian Conservatives (though I’m a Deist), the Horror genre should not be considered a monolith. Yes, there are plenty of trashy Horror movies that emphasize graphic depictions of violence and torture, but there are also many that instead focus on great storytelling, and depict interesting themes of good vs evil. The battle between Van Helsing and Dracula in the original book and many adaptations is a perfect example. Also stories like The Shining, both the book and movie, depicts how human frailty can have serious consequences when not reined in. There are so many examples, it’s not just exploitative depictions of violence and debauchery, it’s not all Friday the 13th or Terrifier. Just like with the video game debate, it’s frustrating that pundits use bad examples to condemn an entire genre or medium.
lol yeah cause there’s ZERO ptsd themes in lotr 🙄
“But I have been too deeply hurt, Sam. I tried to save the Shire, and it has been saved, but not for me. It must often be so, Sam, when things are in danger, someone has to give them up, lose them, so that others may keep them.”
Just finished up 1953. Saved Peter Pan for last to watch with my new baby boy. Forgot how hilarious Captain Hook is. My husband was dying at the ending when he’s being skipped across the water while screaming for Smee. 😂 youtu.be/52zyQyK73IY
This is subjective but … Name three PERFECT movies. No argument. No explanation. Just three flicks you think are perfect. Here's mine:
Jurassic Park (1993)
Back to the Future (1985)
The Matrix (1999)
Not a lie, I stopped frequenting gaming spaces online mid 2010s because of this. Especially Reddit. Theres no gate-keeping at all and they take over completely. Mods and the majority of the users end up being trans.
Last four watched!
Julius Caesar was good! Seemed like a good adaptation as far as I could tell but I've never seen the play. Marlon Brando as Mark Antony and James Mason as Brutus. Both were excellent.
M. Hulot's Holiday was interesting to see what it has inspired (Wes Anderson, Mr. Bean, even David Lynch) but was overall a bit boring and hard to get through as there's not a story.
Shane was awesome. Really loved it. I can see why my husband loves it so much. Simple on the surface but has a lot of depth. Not to mention an iconic ending and beautiful Technicolor shot in front of the Grand Tetons.
Tokyo Story is one of the highest rated movies on Letterboxd. Comes in as #45 or something. It's an hour and 17 min and it's extremely boring. I just didn't find that it brought much after presenting its thesis pretty early in the film. Seems highly overrated imo.
Just some light communism in my chill relaxing game.
I’m so tired of this tongue in cheek adoration for a toxic ideology. It’s permeated so much into popular culture that it’s blasé. No one blinks if the influencer YouTuber makes a joke about “late stage capitalism” (while also trying to get you to buy stuff off her amazon storefront) or if jokes like this are put in a video game. This kind of joke would be fine if it were framed as “haha let’s laugh at the radical” but it never is.
I’m convinced this stuff is why young women are so radicalized. It’s bringing the pot to a boil slowly with a frog in it. There’s no actual counter to it either. Definitely not inoculated against it in school. Only hope is that parents aren’t brain dead.
