DID YOU KNOW? The #WPD Blue Envelope Program helps facilitate communication between officers and individuals with disabilities or other conditions who may benefit from additional support during interactions with first responders. Today, we visited students in Westminster Public Schools’ Transition Program to share more information about the program. And, of course, we had to check out the patrol car! The blue envelope provides a place to keep essential documents, along with information or instructions an individual chooses to share that may help officers better understand their needs. Blue envelopes are available upon request at the Public Safety Center (9110 Yates St). ◾More information: westminsterco.gov/police ◾Watch the explainer video: youtu.be/GEAyaGbfpig?si=TvVx…

SCAM ALERT | We’ve received reports of individuals impersonating #WPD officers over the phone. These callers may spoof caller ID to make it appear the call is coming from a legitimate law enforcement agency. They may claim you have an active warrant and pressure you to “cooperate” by purchasing gift cards and sharing the access codes or providing other sensitive information. THIS IS A SCAM! A couple quick reminders... ◾If you are contacted by law enforcement, we will never ask for money, gift cards, or PayPal cards. ◾NEVER provide financial information over the phone ◾No government uses gift cards or PayPal cards to conduct business ◾Scammers like to create a sense of urgency ◾When skepticism is expressed by the victim, the scammers often become more aggressive and try to make the matter seem more urgent Please share this with your loved ones to help keep our community safe. If you sense something is off, trust your gut. For more information visit our website: westminsterco.gov/181/Crime-…

Training time with our partners @WestyFire! In an emergency, seconds matter. That’s why trainings like these are so critical. Together, we practiced forcible entry techniques needed to breach locked doors, windows, and other structural barriers during critical incidents. #TeamworkMakesTheDreamWork

HUGE congrats to Luke for completing the 100 Yard Challenge with our Mowing with Cops: Lawn Enforcement Program! Led by our #WPD School Resource Officers in partnership with Raising Men & Women Lawn Care Service, this program provides free lawn care to residents who could use a helping hand while giving local teens the opportunity to serve their community. After mowing 100 yards, participants earn their own lawn mower, string trimmer, and leaf blower —provided by Raising Men & Women Lawn Care Service. Luke has officially reached that milestone! Congratulations, Luke! This summer, nine teens helped maintain 80 yards for residents across Westminster. If you’re interested in joining the program next summer, please fill out this form: ow.ly/yhcc50ZC5g6

BUYERS BEWARE | Thinking about buying a vehicle on Facebook Marketplace? Do your homework before handing over your money. We’ve seen cases where criminals swapped VINs, replaced federal safety stickers with fraudulent ones, and manipulated odometers to make vehicles appear to have lower mileage than they actually do. These details can be difficult to spot, so take the time to protect yourself: ◾Run a Vehicle History Report (can use services like Carfax, etc.) ◾Do Your Research ◾Obtain Necessary Documents & Information (verify VIN on the vehicle matches the registration & title) ◾Complete a Bill of Sale ◾Avoid High-Pressure Sales Visit dmv.colorado.gov/buying-and-… for more tips and resources.

Recently, Westminster City Council voted to amend the municipal code regarding the sale and possession of animals, specifically chickens. Here’s what backyard chicken owners, or those considering getting chickens, need to know: If you want backyard chickens in Westminster, you must have a valid city permit and follow the applicable coop requirements, along with other requirements that were already in place. The biggest change? The maximum number of chickens allowed per lot. Maximum Number of Chickens Per Single-Family Detached Lot: ◾ 1/4 acre or less: 6 chickens ◾ 1/4 acre to 1/2 acre: 12 chickens ◾ 1/2 acre to 3/4 acre: 18 chickens ◾ 3/4 acre to 2 acres: 24 chickens ◾ 2 acres or more: 30 chickens For more information about animal regulations, permits and requirements, visit: westminsterco.gov/605/animal…
