Is pragmatism a sudden foreign concept to the new right? No, it's still there, it's just drowned out right now by two loud camps:
1. The die politely, compassionate conservative crowd that thinks "principle" means doing nothing forever.
2. The internet-radical crowd that thinks "revolution" means blowing up your own coalition and calling it strategy.
Both of them are allergic to pragmatism because pragmatism forces you to produce instead of just posture.
Pragmatism says:
Win midterms
Get a working majority
Codify policy
Rebuild institutional loyalty
Strip bureaucratic overreach
Reassert citizen sovereignty
Force the agencies back under control
Then you can talk about deeper reform
But everyone wants to skip steps and jump right to "final boss fight of history."
The Founders were not idealist philosophers who wrote pretty speeches and prayed over vibes. They were strategic, brutal pragmatists who negotiated, compromised, maneuvered, played factional politics, manipulated power centers, and then wrote down the principles to lock their gains in place.
Pragmatism is not weakness.
Pragmatism is how men who intend to win behave.
Right now, too many on the right think the choice is:
Pure ideological purity, or
Total compromise
Wrong. The real move is principled pragmatism.
Stick to the core:
Sovereignty comes from the people
Rights are inherent
Government is delegated authority
Consent is the basis of legitimacy
Then act strategically to build the conditions where those principles can function again.
We will either learn to operate with discipline, or we’ll lose to people who do.

I get the worry if this was a LONG TERM program, but Trump himself said it's for like 3 months to give time for the ranchers' herds to finish growing and be ready for meat production.

All of you anti-Trump people were complaining beef prices were too high a week ago. Now you're complaining that beef prices are going to be too low.
Which is it?
Do you not see how ridiculous you sound? When prices are high - you blame Trump. When he proposes something that will lower prices, you insist it will drive American cattle producers out of business - you blame Trump.
Serious question:
What do you want?
Do you want low beef prices? Do you want high beef prices? Do you want protectionism to protect American jobs? Do you oppose protectionism and prefer imports of immigrants and products to lower prices?
YOU CANNOT HAVE EVERYTHING. You have to pick.
What it sounds like is you JUST WANT SOMETHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT AND CAMPAIGN ON, you don't actually have any solid positions on anything. You simply pick your stance any given day by "What is the opposite of what Trump is doing?" and "How can I blame Trump for something today?", which is a really lousy way to live.
Not only is it TDS cultism, it doesn't actually...fix anything. It's just you making YOURSELF perpetually miserable, and damaging your countrymen and country in the process.

I swear the automatic sign up to the draft is just people rage baiting.
At 18 you are legally required to sign up for selective service. My high school councilors would pull men in on their 18th birthday and help them sign up in high school.
This literally saves time and money by making it automatic.
